I absolutely loved "Secret of the Mummy" by Bjorn Street. I've always been fascinated by ancient Egypt and Egyptology, and also have read some things about the ancient Egyptian Mystery Schools. Bjorn's novel chronicles the earlier part of Hatshepsut's life as she trained to assume the role of leader of Egypt, and the trials and tribulations she faced, as well as her coming of age in a beautiful romance.
I found the spiritualism and paranormal phenomena to be particularly intriguing in the novel. Most people probably dismiss the paranormal activities in the Mystery Schools as "fantasy" or "strictly fiction", but there is a large body of evidence that suggests these activities DID indeed take place. Bjorn's novel made me feel like I was THERE in ancient Egypt experiencing these things, as if I was transported back in time.
The romance in the book was also beautiful and captivating and almost poetic and epic, and in one place I actually cried. My one regret is I wish the book was longer and had more pages devoted to the romance.
I read in Bjorn's bio that his novel was inspired by the movie Titantic. His novel IS grand and epic and has a cinematic feeling that I found engaging.
I eagerly seek out reads that are not just cookie-cutter clones of the hottest trends, so I appreciate Bjorn's originality and "writing outside the box"!
And the ending - fantastic! I won't say more!

I found Bjorn Street's Secret of the Mummy to be very enlightening, educational, and romantic. It told a story of a great pharaoh, one pharaoh that still to this day is a mystery. The first woman to rule even as her king sat by her side. She loved another, Semnut, but her marriage was prearranged by her father. The parts of the story about the love of Hatshepsut and Semnut were so romantic as they felt the love that only soul mates could. She kept him close and pampered throughout her reign.
Bjorn Street's ability to flash back and flash forward, during the story was very smooth. I have read many a book that the authors attempted this technique , and it was hard to follow. In his book, I never felt lost. I was absorbed in the moments of the past. Here in Secret of the Mummy,it allowed you to view the present research that was being conducted in her tomb while transferring us back in time to explain her life. The description of the world in ancient Egypt was breathtaking. It gave a deep picture as to how the great pyramids were built , and the effort that it took to build them. Also, the way the ancients lived their hard day to day lives. This book should be read by anyone who appreciates history and enjoys romance / adventure. I found the book so incredibly interesting. After finishing, I wanted more. I sought out Wikipedia, and articles from National Geographic. Ancient Egypt has always been a curiosity of mine and if it is yours, read this book. Thank you Bjorn for your unique entertaining story.

This is a great book, I found it educational and thought provoking. The story of Hatshepsut an ancient Egyptian goddess is a great one and is not your usual story. Us the reader observes the events that follow in the Here and Now and back in ancient times, we learn the ways of ancient Egyptians. There is an element of a love story, betrail, murder, sexuality and historical events.
Archaeologists and Egyptologists have uncovered Hatshepsut's tomb and the discovery of hieroglyphics and amulets. We follow an observer's account of this event and then jump to the birth of Hatshepsut and the rule of her father Thutmosis.
We learn the traditions and lives of the Pharaohs, their beliefs, the gods, suffering of war, slavery, prejudice, treason and betrayal and the desire for power, control, love and sexuality and the show of force against those who think different.
It gets you thinking that even in this moment now, we haven't learnt, we are still fighting the same wars like they were back in 1500 B.C. And things the Egyptians did was very advanced. It's almost like we have stalled or gone backwards in our abilities.
Hatshepsut is a great heroine in the book with a big heart full of compassion and peace.
I also loved the ending of this book, without giving anything away, it could be true! There are a lot of unanswered questions out in the world to religion, gods and how we came about! And the ending gets you thinking that we could have just mis-interpreted what we have learned about the gods and religion and hieroglyphics!
