CHAPTER ONE
Finished with the hacksaw, he placed it onto the plastic-covered workbench and reached for the machete resting beside it. The well-honed blade had a residue of flesh and congealed blood clinging to it from his earlier labors.
The single bulb hanging from the ceiling left shadows in the tiny windowless workshop and he shifted slightly so he wasn’t standing in his own light as he arranged the severed leg along the length of the bench. Humming softly, he raised the machete and brought it down sharply. The blade entered the open wound, slipped cleanly through the fibula and tibia and easily severed the bottom part of the leg just below the knee.
Except for clean up and disposal, he was finished with this one and already looking forward to the next. This was his third and he was definitely getting better with practice. He’d been caught after the first two and spent eight years of his life behind bars but that was behind him. He’d learned his lesson and he was much more careful how he dealt with the remains of his pretty little girls now.
In June, 2000, two college students — Amy Shute and Jason Burgeson — were approached by a group of men. Forced into the backseat and driven to a remote location, they were murdered in cold blood.
