Most of the King’s fury wafted away after some soothing words by his interviewer, Robert Delacroix.
Robert, relieved and relaxed, said, “Your Majesty, perhaps we can now talk about other matters, including some of your personal interests.”
“My personal interests?” The King still looked stern and his voice was not friendly. “What do you mean? What is it you wish to know?”
“It has been written that you were destined for the priesthood, as the second son.”
“The priesthood!” He laughed, his good humor returning. “No, no. I am a faithful Christian, of course.” He smiled slyly. “But I am a man of many other great interests, as you have said. Music. Sports. The ladies, eh. No, no. Not the priesthood. It is enough to write the holy music of love and occasionally joust with the Church.”
Robert also smiled. “You were renowned as a great favorite among the ladies. You gave generously of your love, and they adored you in return: several mistresses and six wives. Quite an accomplishment, I would say.”
