The Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer of Midville's fifth grade are back. This time they're involved in a ghost story, a romance, a Santa impersonation and a madcap ride in the town Fourth of July parade.
Excerpt
The figure stopped dead in its tracks. Slowly it raised its eyes to where I could now see the Admiral spinning on the end of his rope from the oak tree. The figure 's hat tumbled off the back of its head.
"Yiiiii!" There was a bloodcurdling schriek and the figure let go of the shopping bag, which fell to the sidewalk with a crash of breaking glass. Then it went tearing back down the street the way it had come, the overcoat flapping like a sheet on a clothesline. A hand touched my shoulder. I nearly jumped out of my skin.
"Worked like a charm," O'Connell chuckled in my ear.
