Edgar Watson was the notorious killer that lived in the late 1800s at Chatham Bend, a kink in the Everglades coastline 10 miles east of Chokoloskee. A 103 year old friend of mine, was known all over the Florida Keys, as Captain Watson. He told me a story in the 60s when I was trapping lobsters in Key Largo. I never knew him to lie, cheat, or steal, and feel certain that the story he tells again in this book, about his encounter with the killer, Edgar Watson, is true.
Cap died soon after telling me that story. He was helping a friend lift one of those huge, very heavy, especially to a 103 year old man, D-2 batteries out of the man's boat. Cap wrenched his back, and was unable to sleep. Pain robbed Cap of his sleep.
