Sean McKannah marries Issabella, and over the next few years they create five new McKannahs to help their new country grow. Patrick and his three brothers, Broderick, Simon, Ian, and Jesse all looked after their late arriving sister, Aleena.

Patrick and Broderick finish school in California, and head east to begin their higher education at the newly formed Harvard Law School. They both know that their sister has dreamed of becoming a school teacher. They locate a teacher's school not far away, so they can look after her. She arrives and immediately enrolls in college.

Broderick has always loved guns and shooting them. While still a boy, he is a deadly shot. His young friend and the boy's father is killed; shot to death. Broderick, after months of waiting for the local sheriff to pursue the killer, he puts together the necessaries for a long trip. He has a good description of the killer, and looks down from his horse. "Pa, Ma, I'll be back after I've killed 'em."

Iam began playing cards and shooting dice as a young boy, and was good at it. He ties in with a pro and he eventually opens his own casino in Silver City.

Jesse, the main character, stays with the land and his Flathead Indian friends.
