An action thriller set in the harsh landscape of the Arctic
What seems like a routine assignment for charter pilot John Prescott turns out to be anything but. He's suddenly drawn into a nightmare world of intrigue and violence.
It begins in a remote corner of Greenland's treacherous east coast when a man's mutilated body is found among the ice floes.
Preston is approached by two strangers who want him to take them to see the body.
From then on the action is fast and furious and Preston becomes the desperate quarry of a band of ruthless killers.

We watched, horrified, as the towering cliffs of the two bergs came together. In the channel between them the water was white with swirling foam.
The point of impact was going to be just to the right of the ice tower and I’m sure there was no doubt in any of our minds that the tower would not stand up to it. None of us moved or made any attempt to cry out. We stood like statues, awed by the thought of what was to come. There was nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
When the crash came it was like the end of the world. There was one hell of an explosion as the two mountains of ice bore into one another. The impact must have been many times greater than two fast-moving express trains crashing head on inside a tunnel.
The ice quivered beneath us and the distant horizon swept up at an angle as I was thrown onto my face. Then I was tossed around on the hard bumpy surface; rolling and twisting as the berg convulsed in a frightening spasm. The air was filled with a thunderous drumming noise, deafening in its intensity.
Ice crumbled all around us. Great boulders plunged into the sea throwing up leviathan spouts of spray that showered the top of the berg like rain.
I tried to get to my feet. The berg jolted, throwing me on my face again. Blindly I slid across the ice and careered into a hummock. Again the floor shuddered, reared up and fell, and this time I found myself sliding the other way, scooping up mouthfuls of loose powdery ice as my face shovelled into the surface of the berg.

I'm a big fan of this author. I've read two of his previous books and enjoyed them both. This one is also a good read. It's a shorter book than his others and I read it in a day. It's tightly written and there's no padding. I also learned a lot about what's really going on up in the Arctic region and it's pretty scary!

This is a good little thriller with a lot of pace. There's plenty of action and I found it quite fascinating to read about Greenland and Iceland and the iceberg-littered sea in between. The writer doesn't waste his words and he raises some scary issues about the future of the arctic region and the likelihood of a global conflict over scarce energy resources.

i only purchased this book because i have read his previous book 'rollover' and after finding that exceptional i was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his next book 'urban myth' so i thought it would pass some waiting time!! i was not disappointed......this book is again fantastic and i was gripped from start to finish!! once again find myself waiting in anticipation for his next one......keep up the excellent writing james raven....what a talented author!!

I liked the Arctic setting and the action sequences are well written. It also made me think for the first time about how the Arctic region is becoming more and more important to the superpowers which are desperate to develop new energy resources. It's a short book but that suited me because I lose patience with long, wordy novels which seem to be all the rage right now.”

It's an enjoyable book and an easy-going read.”

“I really enjoyed this book. I like it when a regular Joe gets involved in an exciting adventure that he is ill prepared to meet. He has to call on hidden reserves and become a hero. At the library where I worked, we would have called this a "man's" book like Robert Ludlum or Alistair MacLean. Exciting and would make a great movie.”
