Jodie Broom, a 12-year-old girl (almost 13!), is like most girls her age. She loves her friends, music, and is always up for a good adventure. What she treasures above all else are books and she is consumed by them, reading and collecting whatever she can to satisfy her voracious appetite for stories, facts, and history. But Jodie lives in the year 2075, and more than fifty years have passed since the banning of books and paper; it's a time when no one can own a printed book, or even print photographs. In this E-world, experiences are largely simulated, from the reconstituted food to the zoo that only shows films of all the extinct species. With her student library card, which gives her the ability to time travel, Jodie discovers that she and her friends can experience historical events and meet legendary characters, and can also find and bring home her precious books to keep safe in her secret hiding place.

The premise of this book drew me in because I am a voracious reader. I have managed to give this "bug" to my tween niece and we read quite a bit together. We both read "Jodie and the Library Card" and absolutely fell in love with it. The story of 12-year old Jody, who loves to read but is living in a future long past the time where books have been banned. She finds a way around this through time travel using her "library card". A simply amazingly original story that sucked us both in from the start. Full of adventure, suspense and even a few valuable lessons, this is on the list of one of our recent favorites.

If you love adventure and a good scientific novel, than you are absolutely going to adore Jodie and the Library Card, by Julie Hodgson. It is well written, easy to follow, and contains interesting characters. I lent this one to my teenage niece to read, and she fell absolutely in love with it. The story line itself is amazing; I couldn't help but to be enchanted.
Main character Jodie is a 12 year old girl who loves to read. The problem is, she's in the year 2075, and books are forbidden. She takes her time traveling library card, and goes on a mission to find the books. The library teacher doesn't want the kids using them, however, so she has to figure out a way to get by her and use the card indefinitely. Love the concept of time travel in this book, and my heart just melted for little Jodie.
If you are looking for a fun book to read, I would highly recommend Jodie and The Library Card.

Julie Hodgson’s, “Jodie and the Library Card (Jodie Broom Book 1), is most definitely a novel that is reminiscent of Harry Potter, but I am reminded even more of the children’s books “Magic Treehouse.” The novel is futuristic and focuses on the technological advances, but Jodie discovers the library card that helps bring her to the past and experience different events that has shaped the world she now lives in. The time traveling is so interesting because Hodgson captures the characters of the past in such an accurate way that it makes the story line even more accurate. Jodie is an inspiring young girl who goes on a multitude of adventures that are deeply descriptive of the setting and personality characteristics, making the novel even more multi-faceted. I cannot wait to read the next installment of the “Jodie Broom” series because it just provides an additional story line to this already fantastic novel.
