Neil Recovering from a head wound repaired by Poopa, the nine foot tall Alien doctor, finds that the six Kai`lins that he brought aboard as prisoners had been surgerically altered as children having no real brain functions. After repairing him, Poopa reconnects the parts of the Kai`lins' brains that has been disconnected all this time. To save time, Sockan the pale white Alien that can read minds at a touch and make herself invisible, touches their minds to educate them quickly, but has one side effect. She is in love with Neil and they all become in love with him.
The Marauder defeats the Whoa`na fleet that arrives to collect more Yokas and then goes on to the home world to stop the raids.

Neil is proud of his Alien crew, Poopa the nine foot tall Alien with fourteen appendages and is a highly skilled surgeon. Solay, the Wispees that becomes one of their engineers that looks like a giant bee to Neil, except for no wings or antenae. Noka, the horse looking engineer without a tail or hooves that has paws instead. Elan, the Soorita that looks human except is completely hairless with a camel overhanging top lip that serves on the bridge. After the issue with the Whoa`nas is settled, Neil keeps his promise and all but Poopa and Sockan, the pale ghost-white looking creature stay on the ship to remain as members and not return to their home world. 

Sockan becomes one of his officers along with the mother of their half-human child, but announces they are companions for life but allows him to marry Storm, who lives up to her name. Storm becomes enraged when she finds out that Sockan will deliver a child before she can, Sockan's cycle is shorter than humans for childbirth. Not only is Storm jealous, she constantly moniters Neil's every move and conversation by his personal computer terminal! She sees him kiss Scar, who is a Kai`lin and loses control. Storm has very little of that!
