This is my story. It is all too real and not something that is easily shared. For far too many years, almost fifty years, I kept quiet about what happened to me. More importantly, what it did to me; how it changed me; how I was robbed of a life I may have had. Now, sitting at my computer, at the age of 70, drafting this needed blurb for this book, I do feel robbed and old and, yes, very angry that I must tell my story. One that should never happen to anyone. And, yet, every day of every week it occurs again and again to far too many, 1 in 5 children worldwide. To a point that frightened, little boy inside me screams out “Make it stop! Please! Please make it stop!”.
And, even more agonizing, is the fact that so many people will ever know or appreciate the anguish and injury undeserving victims are made to suffer. Or far worse, that those same people just don’t give a damn.
It all started with a simple inquiry. “Have you seen my friend Barry? His mum said he might come here.” It ended with a life changed; a life that that was just carelessly and viciously discarded. And, no, I just can’t seem to get over it. Why should I?
