Excerpt
The room was very cold. Why was it so cold? It didn't seem like that a few minutes ago. Was it time for another attack? Or was it just that the sheriff was so exhausted that his body temperature had fallen a bit? He didn't know. All he could do was sit and wait the entire thing out.
The sheriff gazed at the deputy's face. He looked peaceful, finally. For the first time since he arrived at the hospital, he looked as though he were resting well.
The sheriff went to the closet and took out another blanket and covered the deputy. He had to be cold with this chill in the room. He tucked the blanket around the deputy and returned to his chair, rubbing his arms to warm up.
Suddenly, he thought he heard someone outside of the room. He stood up and walked toward the door. The sound he heard was almost like the sound of wings flapping. But that was ridiculous. This was a hospital.
What sort of winged creature would be here in the hospital? But then, he remembered the man thing that was in his deputy's room earlier. He could have sworn that that thing had sprouted wings. Could it be that it was back? Could it be that he was planning to finish the deputy off this time?
Suddenly the deuty sat straight up in bed. His eyes were wide open. He slapped at the air. The sheriff didn't see anything. However, the deputy nearly knocked himself off his bed, so vigorous was his swipes at the open air.
"Get away from me! the deputy shouted as he grabbed at the air.
