Humble Hedgehog
Humble the hedgehog
starts from his nap
under the hedge
out through a gap.
Along a path,
well-trod and worn,
he walks alone
from dusk until dawn.
He doesn’t see
nearly as well
as he can hear
and he can smell.
Fidget Fantail
Fidget the fantail
flutters about
rousing insects
flushing them out,
wagging his tail,
fan open wide,
twisting and turning
from side to side.
Flycatcher Fidget
ruffles the air
hunting insects,
midges beware!
He beeps for attention,
Fidget’s not shy,
popping around,
perching nearby,
chattering cheets
and keeping an eye
set on the garden
where midges fly.
