I absolutely LOVED Charm City.

The story starts off with exorcist by the name of Simon. Right off the bat we see that he is a complicated character with his own internal struggles, making him very easy to relate to.

Simon fights for humanity, locating people who have been possessed by demons and exorcising those demons. But simon also has some demons of his own - demons from his past. As the story develops we learn that he must conquer his past. He does so with the help of an intriguing woman Chiara. As we see more of Chiara, we are faced with the question - who is she really? This builds the suspense so well and always leaves the reader hungry for more.

Overall, I found this story to be a real page turner. It's full of fresh ideas and unexpected twists. The flawless writing is both easy and enjoyable to read. More than once I found myself staying up late just to finish chapters.

Ash Krafton has done a great job with the plot, creating both a lighthearted mood in some places and suspenseful mood in others - its just the right mix. The story moves quickly, and there is never a dull moment. I've given this book a five star review because I'd definitely read it again, and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out.

Magic and mayhem
Charm City is the story of an exorcist named Simon Alliant from Baltimore who fights the forces of darkness by exorcizing demons with the help of an angelic Watcher named Mack. He meets a woman named Chiara with similar talents but her mysterious heritage makes him wonder if his angel partner's prophesy isn't really about her.

Together they fight demons, both the ones possessing the people of Baltimore as well as the ones that have been haunting Simon since he was a teenager. The book starts with Simon appearing to use a needle but he's not doing drugs, he's using magic. His addiction to magic is portrayed realistically as substance abuse. Starting off this way makes you realize this isn't a story about waving wands and doing fancy tricks—it's going to be a tough, dark story that is going to get raw at points! .

And just when you think the story will wrap up in a nice, satisfying way, Krafton hits you with the teaser to the next story. Like a great TV show that has you itching for the next episode, The Demon Whisperer series has the suspense and the action to keep things rolling. Can't wait for book 2.
