Home Alone in the White House
Great book for middle-grade and above with strong, funny teenage characters! (13-year-olds) Loved the concept of a disgruntled First Daughter having to save the White House from invaders, along with the Vice President's son. Part action adventure, part comedy, it's a really fun read! Of all the White House Down kind of stories out there lately, I liked this one the best!
What a ride!
On the surface, Megan's got it all, but she only wants the one thing she thinks she doesn't have--her father's loving attention. The scenes where she talks to the Presidential "double" are heart-rending. She takes out her frustration on the White House because she thinks Dad loves it more than her. Yet shortly afterward, she has to defend the White House when it appears to be invaded. I thought that really pointed out her love/ hate feelings for her father. When it comes to the crunch, she'd give her all. The action is so much fun! The kids find inventive ways of defeating the "bad guys". Megan's budding relationship with Josh hit all the right marks for me--sweet and smart-ass. Quite a roller coaster!
