Jon-Luc Boudreaux stared at the woman standing before him. Some might call her beautiful, if you liked your women emaciated, which he did not. The naked woman's clavicles, ribs, and hip bones protruded. He preferred his women with curves. Her sleek, jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulder, hiding one breast.
He had to admit, her deep green eyes and high cheekbones were a lethal combination. This exotic looking creature had long gashes running down each arm. Blood oozed from the wounds dripping down her hands, landing on the floor.
The puddles spread wider as each drop splashed as if in slow motion. By Jon-Luc’s calculations, half her body’s blood had pooled at her feet. She stared at him, her expression grim. His eyes locked on hers as tears of blood began dripping down her cheeks.
Ruby lips parted as if to speak.
“Monsieur. Monsieur.”
Her lips hadn’t moved with the words.
“Monsieur.”
Jon-Luc blinked and the vision disappeared.
“Please, monsieur!”
When his eyes focused, he found himself being manhandled by a distressed looking airline stewardess.
“Huh? What?” He blinked again, then remembered where he was.
“We are here, in Paris. The plane is disembarking. You go now, oui?” The moment his eyes met hers, the pretty blonde's face relaxed and she smiled.
Jon-Luc searched the cabin and noticed he was the only one left in first class. A few passengers still filed out the door of the plane.
“Oui, merci.” Jon-Luc stood, opened the overhead compartment, then grabbed his laptop and carry-on. The pretty blonde walked him to the door, still smiling. She had the greatest dimples.
“You will ring me for supper, oui?” Her cute little eyebrows raised.
“Oui.” Jon-Luc patted the pocket where he'd stashed her phone number, then glanced at her name tag. “Oui, Jeanette. I will definitely ring you.” With that he was out the door.

Deserving of a constellation of stars!
Melding the paranormal into a tale of a serial killer has been done before, but the portrayal of a crime investigator with clairvoyance is an imaginative, if not ingenious twist. Add this to a nail-biting story, and the end-result is an incredible creation of reading pleasure.
This story has many elements of a terrific book – a page-turning crime drama that’s occasionally laugh-out-loud funny, a steamy romance, shadowings of the spiritual and paranormal, and elements of the messier side of the Parisian fashion world; all wrapped up in a gripping whodunit that won’t allow the reader a moment’s pause. It all works, and it all works incredibly well.
What stands out in the telling of this story – what ties this fascinating tale together so well – is the author’s marvelous use of dialogue. Dialogue can be a wonderful writing tool when used well, and in this book, the author uses it to perfection. Ms. MacDonald makes superb use of dialogue to set the tone, describe action, establish characters’ personalities and emotions, and on and on. With the aid of this extraordinary tool (the narration is also wonderfully done), the author presents us with a terrific, fast-paced tale of suspense and raw emotion. The action is well described, and the distinctly memorable characters come to life before our eyes. Finally, the story’s crescendo and climax knock us out of our chairs. (I actually bit my thumb as I was finishing the book.)
This novel is as good as fiction gets. You MUST read this book!
Another Fun Read
If you are looking for a fast-paced, edge of your seat, fun romantic mystery thriller, then give Spirits Among Us a read. Morgan Hannah MacDonald has really come into her own as an author. This latest work reveals her continued development and promises a bright future in writing. She has thoroughly researched her subject and is spot on, particularly when it comes to police procedure, geography, and inter-personal relationships. Yet, this knowledge comes across apparently effortlessly as the plot unfolds. Spirits Among Us is propelled by a compelling plot and realistic dialogue. Actually, MHM has dialogue writing nailed. The story of a former FBI agent with a unique talent for solving horrific crimes makes it difficult to put the book down. My only complaint is that I read it too fast. I look forward to the next book.
Spirits Visit Silently!!
A three edged sword read! MacDonald delivers romance, mystery and a paranormal adventure with "Spirits Among Us". And . . . if that is not enough she also gives us vivid characters to hold dear to our hearts. Jon Luc, retired FBI agent, makes a trip to Paris to visit friend Claude. Claude is with the police and involved with solving murders of fashion models. This team tumbles through events that will keep you reading at an alarming rate. Then comes Angie into the picture who is a magnet for Luc. This is the second book of MacDaniel's in the Spirits Trilogy. Happy to report you can read this installment without having read book one. Although you will not want to deny yourself the taste she gives in "Spirits in the Trees".
