The Witch, The Cat, and the Egg by Joanne Lécuyer is a fantasy book for children ranging from 4th to 6th grade. It’s the story of good witch and her cat. Julianne lived in a cottage on the border of a magical forest with her mother. Growing up, it became evident that she could communicate with the animals in the forest. With that in mind, her mother taught her some spells and how to heal. As time passes, her mother is offered a job working in the king's palace. Deciding her fate was to guide travellers through the forest and to help heal the neighbouring peasants, Julianne remains at the cottage alone with her cat, Magicus. One day she is asked to help one of the king's knights through the forest. Upon returning home, she comes across a large dragon’s egg. Now her problem is to get the egg across the forest to its aunt and uncle to raise the baby until his mother is well enough to raise him herself. Will Juliane be able to accomplish this task?

This was quite an enjoyable read that teaches children a lesson on caring about and helping others. Julianne is a happy girl who loves being around people and the magical creatures of the forest. She is kind to others and believes in helping. The morals of this short story are: all children should learn that nothing is impossible; the word can't should not be in their vocabulary; if all else fails, there is a always family or a friend close by on whom they can call. With beautiful illustrations throughout the story, I feel like this is a book all children will enjoy and will read more than once.

But one day the king sends his knight to see her about a journey through Ennyar, and Julianne discovers an unusual egg on her way back home.

This egg is important to the forest, and Julianne is entrusted with its care. But how can she complete her mission on her own? She will need to enlist the magical beings of the forest to help her.

The Witch, the Cat and the Egg is a gentle tale of a sweet girl and her friends who always want to do the right thing. The forest is a magical and safe place, and no danger ever lurks. But a dilemma, other than the care of the egg, might have added a deeper dimension to this story, creating some tension and drama. Overall, though, this story portrays really good and caring characters, and leaves the reader feeling that magic is possible in her own life.
