Soldiers call them Dear John Letters.  When Sergeant Matt Mathews received his, it marked the lost his young daughter and the woman he loved for more than half of his life.  It marked the loss of his military career, his musical talent to Amusia amnesia and it almost marked the loss of his life.

But it wasn’t all loss.  He unwittingly gained possession of a mysterious envelope, filled with ancient Chinese script.  Local authorities and the Military Police refused to take it, even though someone was trying to kill him to get it back.

He also gained a relationship.  With his marriage over, he allowed his interest in a beautiful coworker to grow.  Without realizing it, his attraction grew to captivation and he found himself in a romantic place of mesmerizing infatuation.

Unintentionally, he allowed himself to become enraptured by a woman possessing rare, exotic qualities.  Guided by the stars, psychics, and ancient oracles, she came into his life, not just to love him, but to heal him and change him forever.  She could see the abuse in his youth that crippled him sexually, and if she remained pure in her intent, she could make him whole again.

Matt struggles to find his musical memory, his precious daughter and sort out the good and bad of love.  Running for his life, he is caught in the rapid transitions of misery, misfortune, joy, and good fortune.  He battles his way through the yin and yang of a world that crashes and rebuilds itself around him at breathtaking speed. 

As the murderous Vietnam conflict rages nearby, Matt fights his own war of love and redemption in the mysterious, oriental metropolis of Bangkok, Thailand.
