Cassie is a typical teenager. She’s crushing on a boy and trying to make it through high school. It’s a typical day of classes when all hell breaks loose. Forced to run and hide the situation just keeps getting worse. She makes a mistake and soon becomes infected. She meets others like her and together they sent out to find a cure. Is their fate already sealed? Can they find a cure before it’s too late? See what happens through the eyes of the infected when Cassie tells you how Zombies a re people too.

I was drawn to the book by its cover. A once beautiful, mysterious girl, mascara flowing, who is now sad but aware and who is turning ... into a zombie. A fresh point of view, bitten but not gone. Cassie, the main character, quickly becomes infected. However, she can still talk, walk, think clearly, eat cheese sandwiches and appreciate boys. With her friends, she treks from one safe house/disease center to the next, hoping for help and a cure. A sweet book, one I will keep and add to favorites, to take out and re-read and enjoy on a bleak rainy day.

Zombie reads rock. I enjoyed this particular take on zombies and found myself almost crying as I rooted for the main character, Cassie, all the way to the harrowing end. She's a normal teen at high school, doing teen things when out of the blue, the school is surrounded by dead people! You can imagine the panic that ensues and Cassie barely gets away from the flesh eating zombies. By barely, I mean, she really doesn't. Hiding a tiny wound she received from her teacher-now-full-blown zombie, she tries to hide in a janitor's closet hideout with her crush, Brett, and his friend. Unfortunately, she starts to crave for less than savory foods and ends up chewing on her would-be boyfriend, to her utter dismay. Thought you had problems right?
The rest of the story follows her travelling to find sanctuary, still not fully changed into full zombie and doing her best to avoid eating others. Hanging out with another lady named Rose, who was also bit, they try to find help and maybe even a cure. Running into a father and son duo, Trent and Cage, where the son Cage isn't all what he seems to be, they race against vigilantes, people shooting them and scavenging for food.
Though I was sad at the end, not really what I wanted to see but I could tell it was coming, I highly recommend this zombie adventure. Not your usual flesh eating corpse read, which makes it a must read!
