An exciting read, full of great scenes, fast-paced action, high drama and imaginative backdrops that reach from Earth to other planets.
The concept of rescuing Earth's population with massive ocean liners (after worldwide flooding) sets the stage for adventures on the high seas, and Balderas does not disappoint. Teenagers with special powers ultimately win the day, but not without a good dose of almost Shakespearean plot twists thrown in.
Combining scenes from the films 'Titanic' and 'The Poseidon Adventure' with characters drawn from epic Greek tragedy, the young author takes the reader into a future of fantastic possibilities. This book is a great start to a series that will likely have many more installments.
The only drawbacks that prospective readers should note are the unchecked sentence structure and the pitfalls of publishing without an editor. Grammar and punctuation buffs beware: You will spoil your own enjoyment of the story if you dwell too long on language mechanics here.
Finally, although timeframes are a little confusing (people and gadgets of the 2010s appear commonplace 900 years into the future - Beyoncé puts in an appearance), and there has to be some suspension of reasonable credibility, anyone looking to see the sci-fi world through the eyes of a budding teen author (Balderas was 16 when he wrote this) will thoroughly enjoy this adventure whose breakneck speed barely ebbs long enough for us to catch our breath, and it must be said that the stream-of-consciousness style of writing (almost every single sentence is a run-on and dialogue appears in loosely flowing form) do help increase the hurtling pace of this teen romp through the universe.

I award four out of five stars based only on this book's imaginative foundation, action, creative plot and colorful adaptation of classic films.
