The Tymorean Trust: Power Rising by Margaret Gregory is book one of a fantasy series already promising to become an enthralling series.
At first look, it’s a long book with the potential for a high level of complexity; however, the opening will capture readers and the story is comprehensible and engaging throughout.
Power Rising starts off with the very everyday characters of Tim and Cindy Ward, brother and sister, having a normal sort of high school bad day. They are both interesting, likable and caught up in circumstances they cannot, like so many students, actually control. However, it begins to seem less and less like a 'normal' high school... and with the start of the energy issues, we realise they (and the place) are far from 'usual.'
Their day - and their lives, will change forever as the truth is revealed. An alien power will not lie dormant, and with power, comes responsibility.
They discover who they are even as they struggle to learn to control their powers. (Including things like sleep lessons! what a wonderful idea.) They have little choice in the abrupt changes in their lives, but cope. One change is right to the core of who they are, when they are told

"And I?" Tim spoke for the first time. "I am...?"
"Tymos, son of Pyani Tymoros the High King," Xyron ..."
Although it is not entirely unexpected for we readers, we see how shocking it is to have ask who they are...
It’s a wonderful moment. We come to understand them as people - their loyalty and their strengths, and never doubt why they are chosen. They are unique. Even among the Tymoreans, they are exceptional. Vincent, on a mission to Earth, and Tymoros his brother and royal governor, both find themselves perplexed by the abilities and strengths of the pair. Others, like friend Tanya will also benefit. The small friendships and everyday events make this so very believable. However, the abilities of 'Tymos and Kryslie' may prove important - to far more than one people, or place.
"When peace rules Tymorea, Peace reigns in the universe." It is up to the guardians to maintain that peace, and the twins' extraordinary potential, makes it clear that they could become part of the effort to maintain it.
The danger is all too real, and nasty. Those of evil intent want to take over Tymorea for their own uses, enslave the people, disregard the threat to the universe.
Part of what makes this such a page-turner is its unpredictable quality, so expect no spoilers here. Ms Gregory creates a world, and worlds that are all part of a complex realm ruled by ancient rules and prophecies.
However, it is real people that fill her pages, with understandable emotions, reactions and beliefs. Powerful, wonderful characters carry this story forward.
The Tymorean Trust: Power Rising is a must read for fantasy fans of any age - don't let that YA tag fool you: fantasy fans of any age will find themselves, like I, looking forward to book two.
