Helps with planning and organizing the writing of a novel
The author uses a friendly, coaching style and nice visual graphics explaining in simple terms how to get started writing your novel. Her writing style makes this complicated process seem simple. She doesn't promise to write your novel for you; she does share her tips and advice on how anyone cake one step after another to reach their goal of getting published, whether it is through a traditional publishing house or through self-publishing options available online today.
I liked her excellent point on having the reader delve deep, and ask himself/herself "Why" they are writing their book, so as to get a clear picture of how to move forward. Her advice to create a "one sentence summary" of one's book idea not only serves as a hook to attract attention from a literary agent or a reader, but I can see that it also helps the writer in the early stages of writing the book to "stay on track" and not get bogged down along the way.
She offers an excellent recap of her writing strategies in the summary located at the end of the book; there was so much info she covered, I found that section of the book very helpful in reinforcing and simplifying the earlier chapters. Plus, the bonus section at the end -- a chapter-by-chapter breakdown sample -- is almost like a template to get your ideas down on paper, helping to organize your thoughts. It's like a roadmap to complete a finished novel.
This book gets right to the point. No filler to wade through. It's a good book for a brand-new writer needing to know where to start, as well as for the experienced writer who needs to get unstuck from writer's block and get a refresher on how to finish the book they've already started writing.
I hope the author publishes this book as a paperback someday. I think it would be a very helpful workbook that writers could use to "flesh out" a story idea and brainstorm plot, characters, and settings in one easy place, before they ever write a word.
A Great Read
Cherry-Ann Carew makes the purpose of writing clear and precise with this exceptionally well written book, that outlines the step by step process to novel writing. It's an easy read which makes perfect sense. I had been struggling with planning and organizing my writing for years and have read many books on how to write a novel. Finally after reading this book with its professional and logical approach, I am gaining more focus and my writing is now starting to move in the right direction.

This guide is short and straightforward. It helps to organize ideas and then offers advice to give your work a logical, flowing presentation. I've seen this author's ability to sift through my own jumbled meanderings I once called writing. I know first hand that she understands what she's doing. This is not a book you'll read and set side. You'll want to use it.
