That night, however, I had a really scary dream.
I was back in Lavender Road but it was during the war, and all the houses had been bombed. I went inside number 25 and I was looking through the rubble, when I saw a light flashing. It got closer and closer and suddenly I saw my Great Grandfather, holding a torch! I knew it was him because he looked me straight in the face, and I noticed his different coloured eyes. Then he said to me,
"Have you found my cross?"
I was so scared that I woke myself up, and spent the rest of the night with the light on. Then I got to thinking that maybe John Unwin didn't like me wearing his cross and was looking for it, so I took it straight off and put it back inside the tin, along with the three photos, the lock of hair and the magnifying glass. That done, I managed to get a tiny bit of sleep before the morning.

I did enjoy this book written about a ghost of the girls grandfather during World War II. It has some interesting facts about the aftermath of bombings during the war. I would recomend this book for a good read.
A hidden history unravels in The Silver Cross
This story centres on a teenage girl called Lacy. The silver cross is a present from her mother but is a family heirloom. Lacy's previously unknown psychic powers are released by the cross and lead her to discover a hidden family history from the time of the Second World War. A story of deception and wrong-doing which involved people in power who deceived ordinary citizens in the 1940's is revealed by Lacy. This deception has been continued by the decendants of the original wicked bureaucrats who have resorted to murder in order to keep their ill-gotten gains. When Lacy's own life is threatened, she knows it is time to go to the police. But how to prove her evidence, when so much came to her via psychic contact with the dead? June Winton makes Lacy's story believable in an intriguing and exciting ending.
I thoroughly recommend this book to teenagers and adults alike. The research is fantastic and the story is very dramatic. I'm sure it would make a superb screen-play for television and urge anyone involved in TV commissioning to read this superb story.
