Sian was jolted out of his romantic musings by a veritable specter that seemed to chill the very air around it. This malignant presence took the form of a rider dressed all in black. In contrast with the colorful insignias and polished metal of the other riders, this ghoulish creature was as dark as chimney soot from the hood on his head to the tips of his boots. Even the stallion that he rode was as black as onyx. Only the stark white of this ghostly figure's face stood out in contrast with the night that seemed to envelop the man even in the full light of day. Sian felt a slight shudder come over him as Prince Carthak passed by.

The characters become your friends, the scenery springs alive and best of all - you feel the happiness and the pain of the characters. Bravo - I can't wait for the next book.
