Did you ever wonder what is happening outside your window?
Plants are growing a little each hour;
some are already beginning to flower.
Clouds are drifting to faraway places;
soon they will be seen by many different faces.
At times the weather will be clear and sunny.
If you’re lucky, you might see a small bunny.
Other times the day will be dark and about to storm.
On these days you’ll see people wearing raincoats as the norm.

Simple and sweet, that is neat. A young girl looks out her window and what does she see? Flowers and rain and a bird in a tree. Outside Your Window, written by Terri Kelley and illustrated by Josefina Tecson, is a sweet treat. The story all takes place with the dark-haired girl at her window, looking out and discovering the world. She sees the daily changes in the weather, the four seasons, the buzz of a bee on the window, and a curious puppy looking in. This story has stanzas of poetry with easy rhymes so it reads a little like a song. Even young girls can have their own window on the world and experience the colorful landscape. The background for the text has a pretty assortment of large, lacey, rose-colored snowflakes.
Author Terri Kelley writes the text from the girl's point of view. There is a fanciful depiction of Mother Nature who appears as a sort of fairy or garden angel. But most people, places, or things outside the girl's window are real and natural. The author's dedication to her friend Jenny Wheeler makes a nice introduction to the story. Ms. Wheeler is a school counselor so she may be able to see things from a kid's perspective. The illustrations match nicely with the poetry, and there is a full range of colors which fill in the drawings' black outlines. The illustrations are child-like and that goes along with the innocent wonder the girl may feel as she observes and appreciates nature in all her glory.

This book captured the different things you could find looking outside your window if you pay attention. You can see bees, the different seasons. The pictures within this story were done in a great way, that you can enjoy the story and pictures together. You get the story from a young girls point of view so it isn't just naming things out the window, it is what this young girl sees. Which is pretty cool.
