Her son plans a birth record for "Indigo" in the Government records. With a Canadian birth certificate Indigo is on his way to being a true "landed immigrant".
William, using his connections, gets Indigo a job on a research boat leaving Toronto to do dolphin research. Moments after Indigo gets on the boat Marlene is arrested by the Mounties who are helping the CIA agent.
But when Marlene tells the Canadian agent the real reason why the American wants the young man they've been chasing the Canadian orders every record of the investigation shredded and burned. He then orders the CIA man and his partner to leave the country.

After the letter is read she carefully puts it into the Christmas fire. Indigo is free and living on the other side of the word but you can never be too careful.
