Buffered by the Air Sephir’s magic, Darr floated upwards, a condition of his summoning that awed him, but didn’t surprise him. He glided forward on the currents of air, shoulders back and head held high. The Archon of Air didn’t fear the Ovid, so why should he? The Ovid’s body, a manifestation of razor-sharp stone, had burst into dust. The grit of it brushed against Darr’s face, whipping past his cheeks and ears. The magic of the Air Sephir kept him safe from the brunt of the attack, but it appeared the Ovid had vanished. --No-- If Tamas believed the Ovid still lived, then where had it gone? “Darr!” Jinn screamed from the far end of the cavern, followed by similar cries from Zander and Conra. The walls of the cavern moved like clay, shaped by invisible hands, sealing off the staircase where his friends waited. The Element of Earth bent around Darr, a reflection of the physical world shimmering through the Currents, reshaping to the wishes of the Ovid. Darr glided closer to the closing fissure, amazed that aged stone could move so easily. Jinn peered out through the fissure, her eyes frightened. “Darr! You have to get out of there!” Even if he wanted to, the opening had nearly closed. He gave his sister a lazy smile. “It’s okay,” he told her. “I have my Archon for protection.” The fissure closed over, but the green of Jinn’s eyes lingered for a moment after. Darr glided around and faced the center of the cavern once more, his actions in tune with Tamas. With the cavern now sealed on both ends, it had the feel of a stone cocoon. Heroic Adventures
Wow! Fear, hope, and courage follows Darr and his companions. The Soul Seekers search for them, as well as attacking the armies fighting the Seekers. The Chosen need to be found and Darr needs to heal the sephirs if the Devoid and Soul Seekers are to be defeated. The task is not easy as a traitor is discovered. Strong characters, engaging battles, and suspenseful plot kept me reading. Read "Spirit Summoner" first if you haven't all ready read it. Now to anxiously wait for Book 3!

Excellent epic fantasy
Soul Seekers by Jon Carlin Shea is an excellent book. I received a copy of it in exchange for an honest review. I do not often read epic fantasy and I have not read the first one in the trilogy, so I had some trouble getting into it. But once I did get into it I was in deep. It’s a well written story of a young man trying to save his world from an evil force, called the Devoid. He’s been given a gift he does not know how to fully manage, so he struggles with control and his emotions as he forges ahead on his quest to contain the evil.

On another front the armies of his world are fighting the soul seekers sent by the Devoid to eradicate life. The soul seekers are not human so they have no sense of self preservation and they swarm over the armies who must keep changing their strategy to stay alive.

This book reminded me of The Lord of the Rings series, in that there is a small band of people working on one quest, while battles rage on another front. The book is well written with believable characters and realistic struggles. For anyone who reads epic fantasy I cannot imagine they would want to miss this.

Darr's fight continues
Jon Carlin Shea’s “Soul Seakers (The Chosen of Light)”, is a wonderful continuation of the epic fantasy series. Shea picks up the story seamlessly, continuing to build an interesting world of realistic characters and events.

Shea continutes the story of Darr Reintol, the spirit summoner who continues to struggle with his abilities. Unfortunately for Darr, despite his view that his powers are a curse, there is no one but him who can bring balance to the Four Elements. Worse, Darr continues to have to face off against the Soul Seekers, who have come back in even greater numbers. Events seem to conspire at every turn against Darr and the armies of Ictar, while the young summoner’s own spirit takes a brutal beating.

As with his first book, Shea has done a wonder job crafting the story around believable characters who move through an equally believe able world. In his first book “Spirit Summoner” Shea set the stage for the heroic and mental struggles that Darr Reintol. In this second book, “Soul Seekers” he ups the ante, and pushes all in, generating exciting conflicts and setting the stage for the next installment.
