The Unfolding of a Rose defines the true meaning of life and brings comfort, peace and joy into the hearts of all who read it.
The Unfolding of a Rose is a stirring account of a mother's love, devotion to her faith, and survival of the unimaginable-losing her daughter, Meta, to breast cancer.
Mamie Smith's narration beautifully explores the emotional territories of the heart put to the ultimate test and her astounding courage to accept God's plan. Meta was always a curious and beautiful girl, excelling in school and marrying the man of her dreams. Meta had two children and discovered a passion for entrepreneurial work by developing her own business. Meta's world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Mamie began a search for the "why" of what happened and helped her daughter with her battle with cancer through her study and practice of Christian Science. These women, bound by love and an enduring faith, gained a greater understanding of the true meaning of life-our essence or spiritual being. As Mamie recounts, "I see her (Meta) as planted by divine mind, nurtured by spirit, and yielding the fruits of love."
Smith's amazing and beautiful tribute will resonate with anyone who has survived the loss of a child or may be going through the pain of a terminal illness. Its message is one of love, hope, acceptance and an enduring faith in God.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR-Mamie Smith is a writer, retired vocal music teacher, and business woman. Dr. Smith is currently writing her second book and lives in Michigan. The Unfolding of a Rose is her first book.
Excerpt
"I knew God was there; in my darkest hour, I knew He was supporting me. I also began to see that the daystar was already there. God had already given the joy, peace, and knowledge to see through this thing called death. The knowledge of the "kingdom of heaven" was within me; I just had to demonstrate it.
Demonstration means looking at a human situation and recognizing that spiritually. the opposite is true. It is an "out of human mind" experience, where one looks at something humanly, but mentally feels a sense of peace about it. You know physically it is real, but something inside of you tells you, "Everything is all right."
I was having more of those days."

Heartwarming Book of Love! Highly Recommended!
When I first held this book in my hands, I felt tremendous peace and love emanating from it. After reading it, I now understand why. This book is about a mother and her love for her daughter and how she found peace with her daughter's death.
I enjoyed how the book started out with the earlier years of her daughter's life, as it gave a nice background to the story leading up to when her daughter had Breast Cancer. Learning about her daughter's life as a young adult also helped to picture the beautiful woman and mother that her daughter blossomed into.

This book is also about great strength shared by both, mother and daughter. They demonstrated their tremendous spiritual faith, strength, and courage throughout the book, especially in the most difficult of times. As an energy healer myself, of special interest to me was how both, mother and daughter, often refused pain medication and other medications and relied on their spiritual faith and metaphysical healing with great success to the amazement of doctors and nurses at the hospital.
I especially enjoyed the ending of the book, as it sends us all a strong message about remembering who we truly are (spiritual beings instead of a physical body). I highly recommend this book to those who have Cancer, have a loved one who is going through Cancer or who has lost a loved one to Cancer. I also recommend this book to those who are going through difficult times in life in general, as it reminds us to look at everything from a spiritual perspective, and it could help us to find the strength, courage, and peace within to overcome our challenges. Highly recommended!
Exceptionally Well Written

The Unfolding of a RoseMEDICINE: A DAILY DOSE OF SPIRITUALITY:
Improving Your Health with One MindI bought this book from the author and it was not what I was expecting. I loved the fact that Mamie got into her personal story which was fascinating. I felt like I was transported to her life as she traveled the world with her husband and children. Then she talked about her daughter who died from cancer and the grief she went through trying to come to terms with this untimely loss. This daughter who was a businesswoman and a people-person opened a store in downtown Detroit. Meta was smart and beautiful, and her light shone on everyone who crossed her path. And so I felt Mamie's pain when Meta was taken away from her so early. But what I really admired was the strength Mamie got from her inner faith through this tragedy. Its really hard to forgive the negligence she believed caused Meta's death but she finds a way to work through the anger and grief. I got upset just reading about it. This book gives examples of how to handle this and any other kind of tragedy. Mamie shares her story to help others get through it. That's what makes this book so useful and delightful. You can refer back to it anytime you need to.
Mamie, thank you for sharing yourself with us.
A Guide That Opened My Eyes
By Rahjinah C. Fluker
The Unfolding of a Rose was a guide for me to see how to handle everyday challenges with just an understanding of God and a realization that changes in life comes with a change in one's thinking. With me being in my twenties, like most 20-somethings, I have been battling with where life was taking me and what path I was meant to follow. While reading this book, I discovered that even with challenges in life, you must remain optimistic at all times. And in those times of question, turn to God for guidance and he will direct. I recommend this book to everyone, from the college student battling with school, to the parent that has lost a child (or even the child that has lost a parent), and everyone in between. With my loss of a parent, it was definitely a guide for me to finally find some closure in my life.
