A fantasy novel, rooted in The Bible.

Angel War is a fantasy novel, inspired by Chapter Six of the Book of Revelation, which speaks of the war in heaven, fought between Michael and his angels and the dragon and his angels. The Bible only says that the war happened, but not why, so I decided to write my own version of the events of the war and its aftermath. Here is the blurb I wrote for the back cover of my book:

From an early age, Azel, the Prince of the White Castle of the Angels of Light, plans what he calls his great rebellion against the Father. After his self transformation into a four legged, scaled beast, he names himself the Dragon. At the head of his rebel angel army and his dragon flocks, he brings war to the angel lands. His intention is to dethrone the Father and rule in his place. Khem, the Child of the White Mountain, vows upon his Silver Sword to be his slayer. The lonely, perilous path of the dragonslayer, he takes. At its end, he stands alone, to challenge the Father's foe to combat.

My book, Angel War, has been chosen as one of the finalists in The Wishing Shelf Independent Book Awards for 2013 in Category 5 Books for Adults (fiction). The Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists will be announced at Author.con in April, 2014.

Angel War
Chapter One
The Making Of The Pattern

There was always life and life always wanted to live. Life became aware of itself and desired to create solid forms. It traced itself into two trees, the one male, the other female. Between them they cradled a child in a circle of light. The child grew. He was taught and clothed by the trees. They were his guardians, though he was eldest and before them. It was he who planted them and caused himself to be as a child, so he could create solid forms.
He grew tall, straight. All the while, as he grew, he was aware of two tall shapes standing behind him. They were his guardians, like two trees, that were there, and yet they seemed not to be solid, but could be sensed and touched, nonetheless.
When he had taught himself to speak with words, the first words of his language, he asked the trees who created them, who planted them. They were silent, but the answer came. He did. He knew he had planted them and had given them their pattern. It was he who had created the circle of light to be his cradle, before he had caused himself to be as a child. When he had grown to be his full height, the two trees, the one male, the other female, clothed him in a hooded robe of white cloth.
The creation was simple, to him it was, once he knew what needed to be done, what skills he had and what tools.

Reviews for "Angel War"

Reviewed by Robert Whitford 5/18/2014

I just finished "Angel War" by Phillip Dodd and I must say that it was definitely a page turner. With a canvas as big as eternity, the writer engaged my interest all the way through this lengthy book. His well imagined worlds that span Gods holy creation held my interest as he slowly spun the story. The only criticism I can think to express is that the early chapters suffer a little from too much detail. Although such a complex reality needs a lot of detail naturally.
The Lord God himself as one would expect, having a less prominent role in the action, makes his moves through other characters, the lesser
angels of his canvas.
It seems that earth is a world set apart from the rest of creation andsuffering unknowingly from the abuses of Azel, aka Satan, Dragon, etc.Mr. Dodds Satan is probably the best imagined character in this story..Supremely narcissistic, intelligent and ultimately soulless by his own design, he is always intelligent and incredibly, able to recognize the depths of his long fall from grace. We should expect nothing less than a grand portrayal of a "man of wealth and taste", from this great effort that Phillip Dodd has put forth. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and reccomend it highly.
