When I discover that a new Little Miss History book is out, I always know that I'm going to learn something new; often about places that, as a British person, I'm completely ignorant of. I love the part illustration / part photographic style of this whole series of books, and think the interesting snippets of information on each page are a great way for even the most reluctant young reader to absorb new facts.

Ellis Island is clearly a place of huge importance to the many Americans whose ancestors passed through it on entering the country as immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries. This book shows readers the procedure that these immigrants were subjected to, with "gate keepers" deciding who would be allowed to enter, and who would be turned away (leading to the island also being known as the "Island of Tears".)

For added interest, the book also explains the history of the island both before and after its buildings were used as a major immigration port.

Well done, Little Miss History! Another book to be proud of. I can't wait to follow you on your next big adventure.

Because I’m an immigrant, the new book Little Miss History Travels to Ellis Island, written and illustrated by Barbara and Victor Mojica, touched my heart deeply. Historical facts and friendly illustrations got me interested in Ellis Island immediately. Enjoying page after page, I was lured into their wonderful story, learning about the uneasy ordeal of immigrants without even realizing it. Educational and fast-paced, it reveals the happy and sad moments, crushed dreams, disappointments and possibilities of people who crossed the ocean centuries ago looking for a better life.

As much as I enjoyed the story itself, I must praise Victor Mojica for his splendid artwork. Entertaining and engaging, his illustrations made this story believable and fresh. They supported the written content in a way that every elementary school student can understand and can be successful in reading it independently. This book does a wonderful job of presenting historical facts about the immigrants and what they were going through while waiting to enter the land of their dreams.

The author frequently tells the reader facts about the history of Ellis Island and what role it played in the life of immigrants. Easy to read, this book will help further a child's curiosity about history and American landmarks.

This book is a fantastic tool to teach children age 6 and up about their heritage and ancestors. Elementary school students are at a great age to learn about where their families came from and what their worried relatives felt while setting foot on a land they had never seen before. This book can plant a family tree and give children useful knowledge about what this country stands for and is built on.

In their history books, Mr. and Mrs. Mojica are embedding good seeds of ideas that can shape a child’s life. All their books are well illustrated, the text is interesting to any age of children, and it is amazing what parts of the story they will focus on.

I recommend this book for those who would like to guide their children into an interest in American culture and history. It is great that the Mojicas understand targeted audiences for their history books. Because of their educational history books, elementary school children will have a chance to study legendary landmarks and have a better grasp of related material later in life.

Once again I was delighted to see another one of Author Barbara Ann Mojica’s Little Miss History Books released. I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review. As a veteran teacher and reading specialist I praise this series highly for the endless teaching possibilities of these informational stories.
I had a special interest in Little Miss History Travels to Ellis Island having both sets of grandparents make their way through here.
There are many outstanding features of this book, two of them being vivid illustrations that support the text and our Little Miss History character who appears in each adventure. It is consistency that is most important for children when reaching for that goal to make an impact. This book was loaded with facts and information that even I was not aware of. I loved the authentic photos also.
This is a great treasure for teachers, educators, parents and families to learn about such an important part of our history.
