My 11yo son and I both enjoyed Little Miss HISTORY Travels to MOUNT RUSHMORE. As Australians, we were coming to this snippet of American history with very limited prior knowledge. All we already knew was that the rock-face sculpture existed and that it showed the faces of former U.S.A presidents. We learned a great deal and enjoyed the way so many interesting facts were drawn into a narrative recounting. The accompanying illustrations make the story rich and compliment the text beautifully.

I also thought it was wonderful how the author presented an impartial perspective regarding the conflict of indigenous land rights. We have a similar history in Australia with a history of our British settlers hostile takeover of Aboriginal lands, so my son and I could relate to the story of Chief Crazy Horse. I love how the author invites readers to make up their own mind about the matter. It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and to look with compassion and objectivity at an issue that can be a hot button topic for many.

As a children's book publisher myself, I’d also like to compliment the beautiful layout and design. The illustrations displayed nicely on the Kindle App on my iPad Mini with the colours being a pleasing mix of tones. The font is a warm mixture of flowing lines and clear, distinct letting. It’s well balanced on the pages and the slightly softened contrast makes for a more pleasant read for dyslexic readers (something my son and I both appreciate).

way to be an armchair traveler and visit some of the Unites States thrilling monuments. Little Miss History is an adorable guide that takes the reader behind the scenes in this book to Mount Rushmore. She goes into quite a bit of detail, explaining the scope and cost of the project giving fascinating facts, like the amount of explosives needs and the type of rock, as well as many of the challenges the sculptors faced. Even more interesting, Mojica doesn't shy from controversy regarding the bitter dispute between the United States government and the Native Americans over the land. This opens the door to discussions on how to solve the issue a appreciate the many cultures sharing American history.
