I had never flown in a plane and was a little anxious. My mind envisioned an entire scenario: an unforeseen object would crash into us, causing a huge gap of twisted metal beneath our feet to open up, swallowing us, and creating a mass commotion among the passengers. People would be screaming and holding onto seats or other objects to keep from being sucked into the oblivion, and plummeting through the Earth’s thick atmosphere to our deaths below. I kept my purse positioned between my feet after takeoff, with one of the straps around my ankle just in case my scenario rang true. When I plummeted to my death my pack was going with me, which I know, sounds a little silly, but my entire life including important memories were in it.

A novel in progress
This is part two of a not yet complete novel. Baby Girl 1 is the first episode, also on Amazon. Part two develops the character of Cleo/Justine, introduced in Pt 1. We find many levels of discovery here, as Justine struggles to identify herself. Who is she really? IWho were her real parents, and why does someone want to do her harm? Justine fabricates for herself a glamorous life in Paris, preparing to marry a millionaire, then turns her back on that existence at the last moment. In Pt 1 she was a street waif and burglar; in Pt 2 she is a member of the One Per Cent. Who or what will she become next? The story is told in a style suitable for Young Adult audiences, but more mature readers may find complex meanings here. I eagerly await the appearance of Baby Girl 3.
Face in the Mirror?
Moonlighting in Paris by Elle Klass is a romantic novel with psychological themes focusing on Justine Holmes, the alter ego of the self-described ‘homely, distraught and self-centered’ Cleo. Having read Baby Girl 1, my best suggestion would be for you to pick up the first installment for some Cleo background. However, it won’t keep you from thoroughly enjoying this one as Klass hits the ground running in this rousing sequel.
The author proves most crafty in leading us to sympathize and even identify with Justine. Despite the fact she is lying and deceptive in her dealings with the wealthy Didier and his colleague Sam, Klass’ refined first-person narrative technique makes us want to see her succeed. The enigmatic Einstein makes a spiritual encore here as Justine seeks closure with memories of her past life, only the introduction of Detective John Young comes close to compromising her façade. Justine is able to make her way into the fabric of Parisian society with the aid of Didier, and she basks in his radiance though continually distracted by her own shadowy past. The climactic confrontation comes as Justine is faced with the choice of living her life in married bliss under a bogus identity, or leaving a life of privilege at the cost of a clear conscience.
Elle Klass’ novel is worth reading as much for its delightfully extravagant journey as Justine’s final decision. The anti-heroine reaffirms the notion that charming people have something to hide, namely their chronic reliance on others to define themselves. Moonlighting in Paris by Elle Klass stands alone as a memorable drama, but as the second part of the series it shows us just how far both protagonist and author have progressed along this winding road.
Past versus Future...which will win
A story that could pass off as a movie scene, Elle Klass as written one amazing adventure in part 2 of the Baby Girl Series; with Justine getting a whole new start in life, she adventures off into a whole new world of love, danger, and in hopes of finding her past.
Elle Klass is an amazing author that knows how to build a storyline that captures her audience and keeps them on the edge of their seat.
I could not put this book down; I had to finish seeing what happens to the new Justine. I highly recommend this story to any reader that likes a story that is full of tense suspense and keeps the reader wanting to know what the next twist is.
