Suddenly it seems like most of the girls in school are into hanging out at a new teen dance club, while Landry just wants to spend her weekends playing video games and baking cup-cakes at sleepovers. Then, Yasmin McCarty, the most popular girl in school, starts to come between Landry's friendship with her best friend Ashanti. Things take a turn when Yasmin tells Vladi that Landry is interested in another boy. Can Landry get her relationships with Ashanti and Vladi back or will she be left behind?

While some of the problems from the first two books have been resolved there are still some lingering doubts in the girls’ minds when it comes to their friendships. Landry is afraid that once high school starts she is going to be ditched by her friends and be left alone in a big public school. The backstabbing of middle school life is still going strong in this book, it is such a sad reality that this happens in our world. This book takes you down memory lane and it is not always memories that you want to have.
A teen dance club opens and it seems that nearly everyone wants to go, Landry is not overly comfortable in that scene but like many girls her age (boys too) she does not want to feel so she has to decide what to do. Does she do what she wants to do or go with the crowd? I loved that this came up in the story, it is such a hard topic for young people to talk openly about with parents. It is a great starting point for a discussion with my daughter. “If you were in Landry’s shoes what would you do?”
Then there is the first date and all that goes with that.....Krysten Lindsay Hager creates a tale that may help cross that generation gap that some kids and parents seem to have, opening doorways for them to be able to discuss what they might be too embarrassed to talk about on their own.

This is the third book in this series and is my favorite one so far! Landry is in eighth grade, trying to figure out where she fits in and feeling nervous about starting high school next year. She has "friends" who belittle her modeling career and will stab her in the back if it helps them get ahead. The popular girl in school, Yasmin, doesn't like her at all and has a crush on her boyfriend. Yasmin comes between Landry and her best friend, Ashanti, and also her boyfriend, Vladi.
What I like is that Landry is somewhat affected by what happens but doesn't go overboard in the drama department. She finds a way to cope with what's happening without losing herself in the process. She's not looking to grow old too soon. Some of her friends want to hang out at a new teen dance club but Landry would rather hang out with them in a more casual setting, where they can play video games and bake cupcakes. The author does a great job writing an authentic story while showing how a young girl can handle herself in some difficult situations. I'm enjoying Landry's journey and hope there will be more to come!

Krysten Lindsay Hager's young adult and preteen coming of age story, Landry in Like: Landry's True Colors Series, Book 3, continues the story of Landry and her friends in their last year of middle school. Hager touches on the many social issues facing young teens, including self-esteem, meanness and bullying, and transitioning from middle school into the high school atmosphere. Her main character, Landry, shares her deepest fears about losing her friends and her conflict between wanting to stay at home and play video games or go out to a teen club. This is the third book in Hager's True Colors Series, but I felt instantly at home with the story even though I hadn't read the first two books in the series. This novel should go a long way towards helping adolescent readers realize that they're not alone in having to cope with the mean girls and rude boys who seem to be targeting them, and help those being bullied understand why and learn to develop their own coping strategies. Landry in Like is well-written and while boyfriends, kisses and dancing are inevitably part of any coming of age tale, this story is squeaky clean and recommended for preteens as well as young adults.
The second book in the Megan Martin series takes Megan, her best friend May, and now the nosy neighbor girl, Brianna, on adventures through a haunted house.
