Mommy called, "Did you pick up your toys and put them away? Did you make your room tidy to play another day?"
"Yes," said Tommy, "The toys are where they should be. We worked hard picking them up. Not one toy do you see."
Mommy opened the door to see for herself, but not one toy was placed on the toy shelf. What she saw made Mommy very sad. The room looked more like a toy launch pad. Toys were stuffed here, and toys were kicked there. Toys were put away without one bit of care.

Arizona and South Dakota author Chris Bauer may be a name new to us in the children's corral of authors, but read her first book and she won't be able to remain unknown for long! With a history of working in broadcasting and producing radio commercials, she knows well how to communicate. She writes with a fine sense of rhyming that makes her little story more fun to read (or sing!) and the illustrations she has provided are excellent and very much in keeping with the quality of the book.
We meet Tommy and Paco (Paco is his dog mate) as they play with all their toys to the point of covering the entire floor with their games. Putting them away is a pain, so they hide them under the bed, leaving the floor clean - but the bed bumpy. Tommy calls to his mommy that he has put all the toys away and is ready for bed. But when his mother comes in she notes the empty toy shelves and that the two had pushed and shoved toys in any available space without consideration of their property. Tommy feels sad because he wasn't truthful with his mommy. So once mommy leaves the room Tommy and Paco put all the toys away on the shelves where they belong - and to their surprise the work was fun! Tommy shares his regret that he lied before about the toys with his mommy and his mommy is proud of Tommy for choosing not to lie!
A fine lesson in the format of a terrific little book for children. Let's hope more are on the way!

Fun, rhyming story about Tommy and his dog Paco. Instead of cleaning his room, they stuff all the toys under the bed. Mommy is dismayed when she finds Tommy fibbing about the fact that he really didn't clean his room properly. Tommy reflects that he is feeling guilty over Mom's disappointment and makes an effort to do it the right way. Great book use to set up a practice of cleaning up the room before bed. Do you put your toys away every night. It is so difficult for children to play all day and then be neat and tidy.
Tommy and Paco loved playing with toys. Paco wasTommy's dog, and they had such fun. One day, Tommy 's mother asked Tommy and Paco to please clean up his room. Tommy and Paco forgot and played and played, and when it was time for bed, hey shoved the presents under the bed instead of cleaning up. Was this a good thing to do? When you read this book, you will discover the lesson Tommy and Paco learned.
Chris Bauer has written a story with a wonderful lesson. And, this story is written in rhyme, my favorite kind of story. Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. The lessons learned will be a favorite part to talk about. The illustrations are bright and vivid and portray Tommy and Paco in their adventures. I liked this book for the lessons learned, and the love Tommy has for his mother.
