Raine by J.C. Valentine is an amazing read. We follow Raine and Jarrett’s story.
Raine is a senior in high school when she meets Camron, the school‘s most popular guy. She was always the perfect daughter, with good grades and good behavior. She’s a quiet and shy girl and she never thought that a guy like Camron would ever look her way twice. When they start dating, she thought he was "the one". After one night, everything changes: Camron breaks up with her and after finding that she is pregnant her parents kick her out of their house. When she tells Camron she is pregnant, he doesn’t care and his parents try to pay Raine for her to give the baby up for adoption when it is born. Raine doesn’t accept Camron's parents’ proposal and decides to move on with her life and pregnancy all by herself.
Jarrett is Camron’s older brother. He is treated as the family’s black sheep for his life choices. When he first met Raine, Jarrett felt an immediate attraction to her and couldn’t stop thinking about her. He didn’t know that Raine was Camron’s girlfriend and he’s surprised when he finds out. When he sees what his family does to Raine, he tries to help her but she refuses.
Months later, Raine and Jarrett find each other again. The connection is still there and this time when Jarrett tries to help Raine she accepts. Raine moves in with Jarrett and they become friends. But soon, they’re feelings for each other start to evolve. However, Jarrett can’t get out of his mind that Raine was with Camron first and he can’t shake off the things Camron said about Raine. He also doesn’t understand Raine’s aversion towards Camron. What happened between them?
This is a beautiful and emotional story.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and J.C. Valentine was able to take us in this ride.
I loved how Raine and Jarrett’s relationship blossomed. Although it seemed that they had the whole world against them, they fought for what they believe and for their love.
The epilogue was perfect!

The characters are amazing and relatable.
Raine went through a lot: her jerk boyfriend uses her and she ends up pregnant at eighteen, her parents kick her out because she’s pregnant, the father of her unborn child and his family don’t want her to keep the baby and she has to go through her pregnancy alone and broke. In the beginning of the book she was a very naïve girl, but Raine grew a lot and became a very strong and fierce young woman. She is a survivor.
Jarrett is considered the black sheep of the family, although he always tried to make is parents proud when he was younger. He has a very kind heart and can’t take what his parents and brother do to Raine. His heart and his mind are battling each other: he falls in love for Raine but she was his brother’s girlfriend and she’s having his child.
Jarrett’s parents and his brother are total jerks. Every time they made an appearance I wanted to strangle them!
Raine’s parents were very harsh on her. When Raine went back home, it seemed that they were accepting that Raine was having a child and they were going to be grandparents, but, like Jarrett’s parents, they didn’t want Raine to keep the baby.
This was a fantastic read. It has very sweet moments and in the end it makes you smile!

Oh Raine is one of those characters that you just want to hug and protect right from the off. And Jarrett is just adorable. We meet the two in the prologue of this story as Raine goes into labour and calls Jarrett to help, straight away questions jump up as to why this girl is alone going into labour and why Jarrett was not with her. Then Jarrett’s musing on his way to Raine reveals the cusp of this story he is in love with Raine and the child she is about to deliver is not his, it is his Brother’s.
We then go back to nine months earlier and find Raine a quiet shy, lonely church going girl with no real friends that doesn’t date suddenly being courted by the school football captain and attending prom as his date. Camron is a douchebag that is obvious from the offset, he takes Raine to an after prom party that he is holding but forgot to tell her about and then just leaves her while flirting with another girl. Following a run in with the typical mean girls crowd Raine holds her own and you get a glimpse that there is a fighter in Raine. She briefly meets Jarrett, Camron’s brother,whose house the party is at, though their meeting is more of an exchange of insults.
Raine drives a drunken Camron home and helps him up to his room where he suddenly seems to sober up and talks Raine into his bed but she isn’t ready for things to go so far just yet not that Camron seems to care and so Raine is brutally stripped of her virginity. Camron being the douche he is dumps Raine and refuses to take her phone calls and so graduation day she informs Camron that his brutal act has left her pregnant. And through his arrogant and horrid response to her news his attending family learn the news too. And Raine is met with the most obnoxious rude people that speak of her and treat her like dirt; oh I hated them so much.
Following further rejection by her own parents to her news Raine is alone eighteen, homeless and pregnant but we see the fighter in her over and over. Raine encounters Jarrett and though she fiercely refuses his offers of help Jarrett is not taking no for an answer and moves Raine into his home. I loved Jarrett he was so sweet and nothing like the rest of his family. The two become friends but not without interference by Jarrett’s obnoxious family and yet despite this their relationship slowly begins to change. Raine is still scared following her treatment by Camron and Jarrett gradually begins to realise the possibility of what his brother did to Raine.
Just as the two seem to accept their relationship they take what seems to be an olive branch from Jarretts family but yet again Raine is treated disgustingly by his family and during a heated dinner manages to upset Jarrett due to his families interference and then reveals what Camron did to her, to yet again be treated like the pariah. Oh god my heart ached for this girl, I seriously wanted to do this horrid family harm. And then Jarrett as a result of confusion over his feelings for Raine and his loyalty to his family rejects Raine and sends her back to her parents. Ugh I cried for poor Raine.
On a visit to his parents home Jarrett finds out secrets that have been kept from him that make him question his treatment and rejection of Raine out of loyalty to them and realises he has made a huge mistake. He sets out to put things straight with Raine and to convince her he believes her, he also convinces Raine to report Camron for his crime. Then yet again following a showdown with his parents Jarrett doubts his relationship with Raine (ugh I wanted to shake him) and he leaves Raine alone which is when the story comes full circle and Raine is in labour. Is their relationship going to survive?

Raine by J.C. Valentine is a good read. Raine gives you a look back 9 months into her relationship with Jarret to present day. You follow the story of Raine and Jarret and how their relationship builds into love. You will see how an unexpected friendship blossoms into two people developing feelings for one another. His family will try to do anything to pull them apart from each other and does not approve of his and Raine's relationship.
Raine has always been the perfect daughter that her parents wanted her to be. Raine was the quiet girl in school that no one looked at or talked to until one day she met someone that she thought was the one. Jarret was the black sheep of the family in his father's eyes. Jarret is the type of man that keeps to himself and does not really care what people say about him.
When his family tries to keep him and Raine way from each other he just fights harder to make sure no one will come in between them . When the indecent happens it shows how strong love for someone really is. It shows how Jarret will do whatever possible to make sure nothing or no one comes between him and Raine. It truly shows the type of man that Jarret really is.

There are alot of different people in this book. You have Jarret's family that do not approve of Raine. Jarret's mom is like him in certain ways and his father is the type that will criticize everything that Jarret does no matter what it is. His brother is the athlete that does no wrong in their parent's eyes. Raine's parents are devoted religious people that think their daughter should make different choices than she actually does.
There is a lot of growing that Jarret and Raine do in this book. This is a good read and it just shows that no matter what age there is true love.
This book really showed me that as long as two people work on there relationship that anything can be possible. This is a well written book and when you read it you can really imagine what is happening to both Jarret and Raine. We recommend that you pick this one up today.
