Hold onto your wings! Have a Devil-may-care, good time with the gods in FURY, the second book in Steve Windsor’s "The Fallen" series. An even more dazzling read, this hilarious close-up of a personality who cussed her way through one eternal conquest of Heaven and Hell will keep you riveted and clamoring for more. With Windsor’s exceptionally concrete prose and dastardly, diabolical dialogue, you won’t regret a repeat visit to his eternity of “everlasting impotence.” If you’ve read JUMP, the introduction to this apocalyptic world, you’ll love an intimate look at one of the stars of the “Great Mountain of the Eternities.”
You won’t get a judgmental showdown this time. The audience gets to leave the bleachers of the Arena of Reckoning and follow the acerbic-tongued angel and her friends through a trip not to eternity, but back from it for a required resurrection that could result in… redemption, retribution, rage… whatever it’s meant to be.
Mercedes King or “Fury,” as she’s now angelically known, is sent through the portal “back,” and winds up falling back down the same Seattle high-rise to… wait, didn’t we see this before? Well, some of it. Read JUMP and then get back here quickly because you’ll appreciate it far more.
Fury isn’t traveling alone, which adds to the fun. There she is, holding forth with her little “purgatories”—beginner angels—at the fiery lake of Heaven, blaspheming her way through lesson-innumerable when she decides to do an otherworldly show-and-tell. Oh, and wait, we’re in a different eternity now, led by a different god you’ll recognize, and threatened by… well, other beings well-loved and well-hated.
It’s all a power trip, motivated by words of wisdom such as this gem only a god of the two Heavens could love: “Sometimes it is much better to let someone live with their own failure… than to end their suffering for them.” But you’ll see plenty of learning here, along with the ever-present judgments back in Heaven that always get the reader the best seat in the house:
“The cawing and screeching and crowing and cackling seemed to last for hours.”
Whoever winds up as the object of this gabble-babble, you’re hearing every screech and loving every minute. And who can resist the reappearance of “granddad” Jump, the former Jake Blake, who features prominently and is still trying to get around to teaching his now “god”-daughter the “facts of the afterlife”?
