The year is 1950. The setting: Hillside
Mental Hospital. In this atmosphere of hopelessness and despair, student nurses from nearby hospitals spent their three month psychiatric rotation.
One of the nurses, Mary Lou Hammond, begins receiving messages from a woman who died in the 19th century. She becomes obsessed with finding proof that she really existed.
The story escalated to a life threatening climax in the frigid winter of 1950.

The child gripped the pencil in her left hand. She began the first clumsy strokes at the right edge of the tablet. She wrote slowly at first, then faster as the words formed on the papers. They were not legible, at least not as they appeared.
But when she held the tablet up to the mirror, the words were perfectly clear.
