State recruiters came when we were 12 to take my twin sister and me from our homes and take over our guardianship. Following Junior School graduation, Kadrin and I wound up on two different buses. I’m one of the only Purple’s remaining. It doesn’t matter that I excelled, or quadrupled my learning, or can do things that other people can’t. I found the formula, the one they desperately need. They’ve taken everything from me, but I can’t die. I can’t. I need to save my twin sister, Kadrin, who was programmed against me. I need to save my only boyfriend, Charlie, who doesn’t even know who I am anymore. I need to save the world, because the only way they can have their Intelligent Design is if they do something foolish, like try to wipe out all the people they think are ignorant.

Brilliant! 'The Modules' is one of the most
Brilliant! ‘The Modules’ is one of the most “unputdownable” books to enter the teen market in a long time. With a captivating storyline, characters so perfectly described they jump out of the pages, and a fantastical setting that is both real and sad, the book carried me swiftly from beginning to end. Against all odds, Catina survives in a dystopia-like society and uses her high level of intelligence to try and overcome the injustices of a
oppressive government. Be prepared to be taken on a suspenseful thrill ride as Catina navigates from one unexpected turn to another. A fantastic follow-up to ‘The Reform’ (Modules book 1), leaving me hungry for the next in the series.
Sharp and Engaging
The adventures of Catina “Cat” Salsbury continue in book two of this series, which offers a sharp, thoughtful exploration of mind control and pharmaceutical programming. The heroine is both the crown jewel and a thorn in the side of Intelligent Design, a government-sponsored programming system in which teenagers are color-coded according to intelligence, behavioral tendencies, and so on, then drugged accordingly to produce the desired behaviors. Salsbury is a "Purple," highly intelligent and precocious, but wildly rebellious and unpredictable as well.
The narrative features well-crafted, propulsive dialogue and some intriguing story twists as Cat desperately tries to avoid her predetermined fate. Cat is a likable, engaging protagonist, and the author has a sure-footed, accomplished feel for both the genre and the narrative itself. Those who read The Reform will love this, and many get introduced themselves to Cat in these pages will find them going back to the first book to get more details in the story while eagerly anticipating the next volume.
