My international trip was to Arusha, Tanzania. It was a 15 hour flight from my hometown Houston, Texas to Bole, Ethiopia Airport in Addis Abba. From there we flew one hour to Arusha. I rode the streets of Addis Abba with a very bilingual cab driver. He told me about how the Italians had massacred their people all through downtown during World War 2. I saw the statue commemorating the fallen. There was still animosity about The Italian conquest of the 1930-and 40’s.
Addis Abba had many nationalities of people on the streets. It looked like an International festival. But the quickest thing I found out there and then during my stay in Arusha, there are very few Western restrooms available and it becomes dark in most places when daylight leaves.
This is true, in about 70% of Africa except for in parts of Africa more modernized like South Africa which may have up to 90% of electricity and plumbing throughout the more modernized parts of their country. But the villages of Soweto and Cape Town still lag far behind. This is very true in many of the ancestral villages throughout Africa that still lag behind in modern amenities.
The Presidents first trip to Kenya since he became President had a much deeper mission than the ceremonial and ancestral ties he shares on the continent. The major part of his mission to Africa was an American blitz of trade and to use his connections to catch up and surpass China in African trade.
