Olivia Ocelot lives in the Rainforest in Costa Rica with a lot of other very interesting animals. They all know she is the one to come to if they have a problem, because Olivia Ocelot cares about her friends, and she is a very good detective. In this first episode, Penelope Oropendola, a beautiful bird, comes to Olivia Ocelot. Penelope and her group of friends have a big problem. Olivia Ocelot goes out and visits her neighbors, Freddie Frog, Babs Bat, Blossom Possom, Ignatious Iguana, Bob Boa, Howie Howler Monkey, Sylvia Sloth, and Horatio Horned Owl. She asks them all for advice.
She finally gets the answer and helps Penelope and her Oropendola community. Olivia Ocelot has come to the rescue, and she is very happy. Next, she is summoned by dangerous and powerful Jason Jaguar, King of the Rainforest. She goes to see him with great fear and trembling, and the story comes to a happy ending.
Excerpt
Olivia Ocelot finds her friend, Howie Howler Monkey, his mate, Honey and their baby, Precious, in a fig tree. Howler monkeys love to eat figs. It’s never hard to find Howler Monkeys because they are the loudest animals in the Rainforest. They love to howl just as much as they like to eat figs. They have a special voice box in their throat that projects their howls as far as a mile away in the jungle. They are mammals and also Primates. They have thumbs like people do, and they are very clever.
Olivia asks them how they take care of their baby, and Honey Howler tells her that all the mothers in the neighborhood help each other raise each other’s little ones. They are all co-mothers, and they also feed each other’s babies if the natural mother is away when a baby gets hungry. Olivia Ocelot is amazed. Olivia Ocelot tells Honey Howler Monkey that is such a great way to raise babies. Honey tells Olivia that she will keep Precious with her for at least 12 moons, and then she will stay nearby in their family group.
Olivia Ocelot tells the Monkeys about Cora Cowbird, and they are so sad for the baby cowbirds. They don’t have any ideas for the Oropendolas, and they tell Olivia she needs to go to Horatio Horned Owl. Olivia Ocelot knows they are right, so she heads for Horatio’s tree to ask his advice.
