In this e-book, I share some advices and tips to increase the quality of a scientific article.
Publishing is an important part of life of scientists. Although it can lead to a deleterious competition between researchers – everyone knows the famous “publish or perish” -, one has to admit that this situation is not going to change in the following decades. In 2006, approximately 1.4 million scientific articles were published by 23,750 journals (2-3 articles per minute). Nonetheless, a recent study has showed that less than 1% of the research community (150,608 scientists) has published at least one paper a year between 1996 and 2011. Therefore, a high proportion of researchers do not manage to maintain a continuous uninterrupted stream of publications. Even if several hypotheses must be considered, it is highly possible that the quality of their manuscripts is not good enough to be accepted by a scientific journal. The goal of this eBook is to share the tips and the advices of a young researcher. With them, writing a manuscript will be much more easier, and the chances that it will be accepted in a scientific journal will increase. Next sections will be divided as in a real scientific article. To give to the reader practical examples, we will use a recent paper published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment: “Impact of disease management programs on women with breast cancer in Germany” (Louis Jacob is the first author). Of course, this is not the perfect article, but it gives interesting leads.
