Carrie vs. the CIA...
I have read a fair number of Ethan Jones' books, now, and they never fail to please me, Mr. Jones updated the material in December of 2015, to excellent effect. What I like about his stories (and this one is no exception) is first, that he doesn't hesitate to portray quite current events in the Middle East, and second, that despite the action thriller format, he doesn't hesitate to take on serious issues with moral implications--in this case, the U.S. drone program, and the problem of "collateral damage". Now, I am a bona fide 9/11 survivor, and wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on the "perps"--indeed, I'm afraid that's the only solution for those guys. But I am also appalled at the callousness with respect to the deaths of innocents--there is no excuse for that. In this story, the first in a series featuring Carrie O'Connor, Carrie and her Somalian sidekick take out a vicious terrorist. Then she is ordered to assist the CIA in assessing the results of a drone strike--and this operation results in the death of her CIA sidekick, as well as countless Somalian innocents. Her reaction to that incident brings her into direct conflict with a senior CIA officer--you'll have to read the rest. An excellent story, excellent characters, excellent all around.
