For Tobias, Bethany and Jesse, it all began when their mother, grieving over the loss of their infant brother, chose to seek help from a supposed faith healer, who was also a member of a local cult. The Amish teens must cope with the aftereffects of their mother's excommunication from their church and community, her supposed suicide, and the increasing hostility of the cult. As if that isn't bad enough, the evidence that their country is slipping into a dystopian nightmare becomes impossible to deny. With Amish teens disappearing from the Englisher parties they attend and Englishers fleeing to Amish communities for refuge, it is no longer possible for these self-isolated people to keep the influences of the world out.
