After crashing her car on a rural back road in the middle of a storm Tierney wakes to find herself in a one room cabin with a beautiful woman. Is what happens next a symptom of a concussion or are there stranger things in this world than she's willing to admit.
Excerpt
Someone was singing. The voice was soft and low, the words indistinct and possibly in a foreign language. Tierney didn’t care; she just wanted to snuggle deeper into the soft warmth she was laying on and never stop listening. A strange rattling sound interrupted the song and Tierney gave a soft sigh of protest, her eyelids fluttering as they tried to open.
“Thank you, Nox.” The voice of the singer murmured. There was a rustling sound close to her head and Tierney managed to blink her eyes open to find the source. A very large crow was perched on the back of a wooden chair a few feet away. A glittery black eye regarded her intently and when she blinked the bird blinked back at her. The bird’s beak parted and the rattling sound was repeated along with the rustling as the bird puffed up its feathers and then settled again.
Tierney pulled her gaze away from the bird to take in her surroundings. She was lying on a bed close to a fireplace in a low ceilinged but fairly large room. A few candles and a crackling fire gave warmth as well as a dim light. The chair the crow perched on was pulled up to a desk in the corner across from the foot of the bed. On the opposite side of the fireplace was a comfortable looking chair and strangely shaped bundles hung here and there from the ceiling beams. Tierney couldn’t see much beyond that, the dim light didn’t reach that far. Figures seemed to dance in the shadows beyond her sight, voices whispering so faintly she could barely catch the sound. A shiver ran down her spine and Tierney closed her eyes, counted to ten.
“Hush now, all of you.” The soft voice spoke close by. “You don’t want to frighten our guest.”
