Connell spoke up to distract them from their targets, who stood near the center of the room in between the bar top and fireplace. “Have I arrived at a bad time?”
The one holding tight to the struggling girl glanced at him with narrowed eyes. “Your timing depends upon your actions…friend.”
Connell nodded, stepping inside the inn at a leisurely pace while taking stock of everything around him. The door behind him squeaked shut with an abnormally loud volume. From the periphery of his vision, he watched the patrons on either side, noting from their body positions what actions they might be inclined to take. None posed a threat to him or the girl, so he dismissed them, focusing back to where the drama unfolded. The stout man on the floor stirred, but a large Levic Claw warrior held an axe blade over the man’s face.
Connell continued to advance.
Swords drawn, the other two Levic Claw warriors stepped forward to confront him.
