Excerpt

This is an excerpt from my Nook Book titled SPECTRE WARRIORS. I tried the page 69 test and I was pleased that the test was spot on. Enjoy! S Christopher Willems

"We are the most powerful warriors in the cluster of star systems of the Miran realm. The battle should be ours. For, it is our moment to shine," Arkon said forcefully. He looked up at the images of the crew and brushed back his pointed ears. The Santar Ranger stood up next to the alternate recliner in the control room aboard the starship Voyan. He turned to the star shine in viewplate. The ranger reached into his pocket and pulled out a black onyx disk, his personal data disk. "All of you. Come here," Arkon commanded.

Eric looked up stunned. The ranger walked quickly into the hallway. He sat down in the center of the hall and put the data disk on the floor. Eric and Josh stepped up to Diane and David who were standing in the hallway. They all stared in amazement. Strangely colorful holograms rose up from the data disk. They swirled all about the furry head.

With a sudden flash, a column of lavenders and pinkish reds spiraled upward before the Santar Ranger's eyes. Bright images and colorful symbols were displayed on the curved edges of the column. Also being displayed were crisp images of some mysterious control room. His long pointed ears perked up. Bright and colorful symbols scrolled around the curved surface of the column.

"Those are extremely complex Miran equations," David said slowly. Arkon nodded his head. The brilliant images swirled all about the ranger's form as the light panels overhead dimmed slightly. The bright yellow, green and blue symbols were being projected on the walls of the hallway.

"We have been allies of the Miran home world for a long time. With great effort we have gained knowledge of the intricacies of the Branas order. It was their greatest creation, the Oblis Crystal, a large diamond made of crystalline molecules forged at the heart of a black hole. The shimmering glass sculpture is finished with finely etched circuits. It has the power of a galactic storm. It is the Oblis Crystal that we seek."

Suddenly, bright yellow lines and stars appeared on the floor. They began spinning. A dazzling image of the tall diamond shape appeared in the air right before them. The image was so bright it hurt their eyes. Eric’s forehead wrinkled. That must be the Oblis Crystal, he thought. He tried to comprehend the amazing concepts. His strong arm reached down to help Arkon up, and then they walked back into the control room.

"We will go with you," Eric said sternly. "You should have known that. But, you're asking an awful lot from people who are running out of luck." Blue eyes stared at the green disks of the large oval eyes. A smile moved the thin lips of his snout. They sat down in their recliners.

"You humans make your own luck."

"We can attack Star Edge. That's not a problem. We want to stop the Kojer Reptars as bad as you do," Eric said rubbing the back of his neck. "Just tell me one thing. If it is not a weapon, then why is the Oblis Crystal so important?" Arkon smiled slightly. The humans were moving closer and closer to the truth. Finally, he was beginning to realize the true meaning of the Legend.

"It is a device of Branas," thin lips said softly. Eric's eyes squinted. "Before the Branas energy beings were destroyed or exiled during the Starbeam War, they created many strange and powerful devices. You and I both know they cannot be corrupted. It is the ‘Legend’. Sooner or later, their technology has to turn against the evil Kojer Reptars." Eric smiled at the small face. "It is then that we all shall know the divine wisdom of those mysterious beings."

"So, we've got an ace in the hole, eh?" Eric said, smiling a broad smile. Arkon looked confused. Eric was sure that the Santar Ranger had no idea what that phrase meant. A power graphic flashed on his screen.

"All our energy systems are up to full power," Josh said.

"That was quick." Eric tapped some colorful symbols on his console. Green graphics changed on his screen. "Okay, crew, prepare for full speed. We’re headed for Star Edge. Everybody get ready. Our greatest battle lies ahead." The sound of the engines roared through the hallway. The navigator smiled, looking over at Josh. "Accelerate!" The Voyan turned into a streak of color against the starry sky.
