The discipline to work can be challenging for all of us, but motivating children to work is especially difficult. As a father of eight, Pastor Scott knows what is needed. Let him help you teach your children what the Bible says about work. The Family Guide is the culmination of what has been successful for him and his wife, Katie. They have learned from families they respect, books they’ve read, videos they’ve watched, conferences they’ve attended, and—most importantly—trial and error. Inside you will find:

Christian family books are hard to find. If you’re looking for Christian workbooks for adults or a Christian workbook for kids, look no further! Inside you will find a family workbook parents and kids can enjoy working through together. This is also a wonderful resource for group Bible studies. Whether you’re a man or woman, young or old, parent or child, married or single, this guide will enable you to enjoy both work and rest as God intended.
It’s not a Bible verse: “Do your best,” but this truth is communicated in Scripture. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might,” and Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” The Family Guide will help you do your best and learn what is the work of a Christian. Discover joy and purpose in all you do!

“God commands us to work. And God also commands us to rest. Scott LaPierre shows how the Bible discloses the sinfulness of laziness and ‘idleness,’ and he unpacks the contrary Biblical virtue of ‘diligence.’ But he also shows how our relationship to work can become sinful. Workaholism turns work into an addiction that can lead to burnout and idolatry. The Biblical principle of the Sabbath counters those tendencies with physical rest, the cessation of busyness necessary for spiritual devotion, and the life of faith, in which we realize that our salvation comes not by our work, but by resting in Christ. Work and Rest God’s Way is a welcome contribution as Christians rediscover the doctrine of vocation in all of its practicality and spiritual richness.” Dr. Gene Edward Veith—Provost at Patrick Henry College, director of the Cranach Institute at Concordia Theological Seminary, and author of God at Work
“In Work and Rest God’s Way Scott LaPierre wonderfully reconciles the very real tension between work and rest by resisting the celebrated extremes of workaholism and play by relying on the principles and patterns laid out in God’s Word. In an age when so many are sacrificing so much to gain so very little—manifested through materialism on the one hand and hedonism on the other—this book will help you, especially if you’re a young man, navigate this life-altering strait.” Kirk Smith—Church planter, pastor, and Executive Director for the Illinois Christian Home Educators (ICHE)
“Scott LaPierre has produced a much-needed resource to help our churches and families recognize the blessing and purpose of work. He addresses sloth, the penalty for it and overwork and the need to rest, ultimately finding our rest in Christ.” Gary Powers—Preaching elder and founder and CEO of Ortho Molecular Products

If there's one thing that we as devoted Christians desire todo, it would be to live all facets of our lives in the manner the Lord wants us to live it. And once Christian couples have their marriages functioning according to the Lord's instructions, they've got the rest of their lives to look forward to.
With all the facets involved in living a Christian life in the Lord's intended manner for us, we face the dilemma of balancing everything we do so we can toil at our labors and still be able to live life joyfully.
What Christians need to accomplish this is some guidance by a knowledgeable Christian, like Pastor Scott LaPierre, who has written this Family Guidebook in conjunction with its companion book, "Work and Rest God's Way: A Biblical Recipe for Finding Joy and Purpose in All You Do."
When it comes to us finding joy in the work we do, we need to look to what we read in ECCLESIASTES 3:13 [NKJV]: "And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor--it is the gift of God."
This verse reinforced what is written in ECCLESIASTES 2:24[NKJV]: "Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God."
As a Christian woman and nonfiction Christian book reviewer, I've found that devotional books do a decent job for the purpose they're written for, transforming their readers' lives regarding a specific, limited topic such as pregnancies. However, devotionals can't suffice the needs of individuals when the topic is more complicated.
Pastor and author Scott LaPierre did a spectacular job when he wrote, "Work and Rest God's Way: A Biblical Recipe for Finding Joy and Purpose in All You Do." The book allows readers to avoid having turmoil in their lives as they attempt to balance all aspects of it, especially the work and rest needed; they need to determine what must be done.
Books that center its contents on Christian family life are quite limited, which is why I found this book to be quite enlightening and a must-read for all Christian families.
While the actual book does a marvelous job for the purpose it was written; it didn't allow for the growth of the Christian family unit. It is, for this reason, that author and Pastor Scott LaPierre created this family guidebook.
The guidebook the author has written here contains material new not previously included in the original book. Going chapter by chapter, this guidebook presents pertinent and probing questions so the Lord's blessing can become apparent for each member of the family. By insisting that parents include their children in all their discussions regarding both books, Pastor LaPierre wants them to fulfill the directive found when we read DEUTERONOMY 6:7[NKJV]: "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
This book will enrich the Christian family's life so they'll live it in the manner the Lord wants so they can be revered and treasured, which is why I'm not hesitating in giving this guidebook 5 out of 5 STARS.
