FRAN VISITS GOD - An Excerpt from "We Meet in Dreams"

My friend Fran also had a dream that I feel was a true experience.   Fran was raised Catholic, but had abandoned all organized religion long before I met her.  Instead, she tried her best to be a good person, and to help others here on earth.  Fran prided herself on her own strength and independence, and strove to give an  impression of  toughness to the outer world.  However, in her late forties she was diagnosed with an aggressive  sort of cancer and had two serious and complicated cancer operations within a few years.  She was very honest about her fear of dying, and she wanted very much to continue her life here on earth.

One night, during the worst of her battle against the cancer, she dreamt that she had gone to a beautiful realm.  While there the Voice of God told her that He wanted her to stay on earth, He had work for her to do here.  When she told me the dream, I asked her what the realm was like and she sheepishly answered: “It was very beautiful and peaceful - I didn’t want to leave.”

Why do I think this was more than just an ordinary dream?  For several reasons.  First of all, in all the years I knew Fran - she had never told me any of her dreams, nor had she ever said anything about her inner spiritual life or beliefs.  This dream visit to a high realm however,  was vivid enough, real enough and felt important enough for her to want to share it with me.  In fact, she came over to my house expressly to tell me about the dream.  Secondly, the dream went against all her waking state desires and thoughts.  In waking state consciousness, she wanted very much to live on earth and was terrified of dying.  Thirdly, the dream was many, many years ago - and against all odds, the cancer has never returned.

After these dream visits to the higher realms, we should try to bask in the memory of them, recreate them within ourselves, so that we can carry the Beauty and Wonder and Love and Peace of those realms with us always - and share those qualities with others.  If we should  receive a message from those we love or a Teacher - or from our own soul -  in our dream meetings and travels in other realms, these messages should be remembered and cherished, for they in some way reflect the Love and Peace and Wisdom of those realms, and of the Soul Itself.  

In the next section of this volume there are wonderful stories of dreams of floating or flying in higher realms, even among the stars.  Even if there is no meeting with a loved one, no message, as in Danielle’s story (‘Learning to Fly”) - we should still honor and cherish the experience.  Here again, we should try to recreate the experience in memory, and bring the clarity and Love and Peace of that realm with us into our waking state consciousness - for we ourselves are in a higher consciousness when we are in those realms.
