With its Venetian Gothic lancet arches and crystal chandeliers, the Cincinnati Music Hall stands as an architectural masterpiece. The Cincinnati Red Stockings made history as the first professional baseball team. Remnants of marine fossils from the Ordovician Period remind residents that the city was once under water. Limitless local varieties of goetta range from family recipes to trendy café dishes. And the city birthed trailblazers like track and field star DeHart Hubbard, the first African American to win an Olympic gold medal in an individual event. One of the things that’s changing in Cincinnati is how we do business, including family business. Jacquie Denny, founder and chief development officer at Everything But The House (EBTH), is a history buff with a background in sales and corporate management. She was motivated to change the estate-sales business by a memory from her own past.... Enter Brian Graves. He worked in IT at Children’s Hospital. He had been attending Denny’s auctions for 10 years while he rehabbed a Victorian home in Pleasant Ridge.
“I know he had the same heart and passion for the family that I did,” says Denny. “He was all about the service aspect.”
As “chief learning officer,” Graves had the idea to take the business online. Denny was leery at first.
“I said, ‘Dude, I can barely use a smart phone!’” she says. But Graves was persuasive and on the right track. They took the business to the interwebs (at www.EBTH.com) and launched EBTH in 2008 as the “premiere estate sale marketplace.”
What an exciting and comprehensive portrait of the Queen City where I was born and spent my childhood. This book is well written and illustrated. The narrative is a treasure chest blending the city's history, architecture, institutions, and the stories of people who have left indelible footprints across its cultural landscape. In these pages I felt at home at Burnett Woods, Coney Island, Mt. Storm Park, the Art Museum, Music Hall, Fountain Square, the Carew Tower, the Suspension Bridge, and Crosley Field where I attended many Reds baseball games. Equally as thrilling was discovering cultural, architectural and other innovations since I moved away that make Cincinnati unique in our current time. By providing web links for many of the city's features, the author enables readers to journey beyond her pages. For me, this was a welcome nostalgic interlude. I found it to be a good read that I would recommend to anyone.

Everything from 'A' to 'Z' (art to the zoo) is outlined with chapters thoroughly researched. This book exhibits the love the writer and illustrator have for this amazing city.
Never having thought of Cincinnati as a place of any interest--I was surprised to read about the history of the various buildings and its place in American history. Goes to show no matter the town or city, every place has interest and should not be overlooked.
And while a town or city is not featured on national travel segments or heard about very often does not mean it doesn't have interesting sites. Before traveling to Cincinnati, purchase this book to help guide you to the points of interest.
This is an informational publication of the city that will appeal to anyone interested in history.
