According to his watch, Arnie and Fisher had been down less than ten minutes. The oxygen tanks lined up against the storage bin beckoned to him. He grabbed the closest one and peered at the gauge. 1,700 pounds. Enough air for a short dive. Wanting to witness what had prompted Fisher's request, he geared up and dove. The wetsuit didn't completely insulate his skin from the colder water he encountered fifty feet below. With darkness surrounding him, he trusted the guide rope to lead him to the site as he continued his descent. Minutes later, through the shadowy waters, Hauk spotted his two divers. Arnie floated above a lamppost, and Fisher knelt on the lakebed in front of the wreck. An object was in Fisher's hand. He swam toward her to get a better view, but the mysterious object disappeared into her bag, and she glided away from him before he had a chance to satisfy his curiosity. A few flutter kicks behind her, Hauk stretched out his arm with the intent of tapping her shoulder. Her hand swiftly swept across her belt, and a glint of light from the lampposts reflected off her glove. She spun around. Eyes glazed with fear, she swung her arm. If you love an unpredictable suspense/mystery romance then this book is for you. Hauk Ludvikson, the hero, and Star Fisher, the heroine, as well as the other prominent characters, really kept me on the edge of my seat. J. S. Marlo created a complex plot that demonstrated originality. The cast of characters were brilliantly interwoven in a suspense/mystery that incorporated generations of families. I couldn’t read this book and multitask because I needed to concentrate or else I’d get confused with the web of characters. I grew to appreciate the dynamics of Hauk’s dive team. They couldn’t exist without each other working together to solve the mystery and protect each other’s back. I grew fond of Kyle’s humor, Scott’s wit and Arnie’s sensitive side. I could see Kyle and Scott being the heroes in their own books.

The chemistry between Hauk and Star was excruciatingly slow to blossom. Yet, when it did it was well worth the wait. Their focus was on solving the mystery and protecting each other from the consistent suspenseful danger. I personally would have preferred a little less suspense and danger and more romance but that’s just me. I definitely would have enjoyed an epilogue. The story concluded with a happy ever after ending between Hauk and Star, and the mystery was solved but there was no justice. Without justice or vindication how can there be closure?

With all the suspense and danger, the pace was smooth and quick. The writing style was flawless. I was engaged from the beginning of the book until the very last page. I didn’t want to put the novel down. I enjoyed discovering all the secrets along with the plot twists and turns.

I recommend this book for those who want to experience some action, suspense, solve a mystery all while getting romanced for a few hours. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. You won’t be disappointed.

What links the mystery disappearance of a Model T Ford almost a century ago, an eighteen year old murder of a family of four and attacks on a salvage boat and crew?

When Star Fisher accepts a diving job with salvage skipper Hauk Ludvikson she finds herself pitchforked into danger and the mystery of an old murder investigation.

Hauk Ludvikson feels Star is too young to have gathered the experience he needs in a diver, but he decides to give her a chance.

Initially Star has to deal with the crew who are unhappy that such a young person has replaced their injured diver. Slowly she wins them over as she proves she is more than capable of doing the job. Her interaction with Hauk is tense to say the least, but he tries to protect her from the danger that seems to shadow her. As the story unfolds Star finds her past unravels as she finds everything she's believed is questionable. She tries to go it alone fighting danger and trying to solve the horror of the nightmares which haunt her, but eventually she asks Hauk for help.

The mystery, suspense and intrigue involving the salvage of Model T and the investigation of an eighteen year old murder, keep the story moving at a steady pace. Two seemingly separate incidents separated by many decades, are linked by the salvage team and the attacks made on their boat and crew. It becomes evident that the attacks are centered on Star, and the crew close ranks to protect her.

Sabotage, explosions, kidnapping, savage dogs, this story has it all, plus moment of pure romance which slot in quite naturally. The hero and heroine's aspects on what is happening is supplemented by the attackers point of view so the reader gets the whole story, but without any spoilers to give the game away.

Hauk knows exactly how he feels about Star, but he's unsure of her feelings for him. Star keeps her emotions under strict control and even manages to hide her injuries when she's attacked. This makes it very difficult for Hauk to show Star that he really cares for her.

I found this book captivating and although daily life forced me to stop reading at times, I couldn't wait to get back to the story. The whole book made me feel I was there, taking part in an event which actually happened. The characters came across as real people who interacted in a natural, if explosive way.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes intrigue, romance and mystery. The author has amalgamated all three seamlessly to provide the reader with a fascinating book which is a pleasure to read.
