Danielle and Nina are rescued from their wicked step-mother by Emma the Yellow Dream Train who takes them on adventures. When Nina learns she has the ability to speak to animals, Emma and the other trains teach her how to use it.
Two little girls, grieving the loss of their mother, find comfort in spending time outside after dark and remembering the stories she told them.
When a magic train, which delivers dreams
to the children of the world every night pulls up in front of them one evening, they are in for the ride of their lives.
Over the course of the next few months, the girls make new friends, take on strange enemies, and discover that one of them has a secret power that the leader of these enemies has been longing to steal for years.
Excerpt
Not long after, Nina awoke to an unusual sound. In the distance, a loud bell was ringing, but there weren’t any churches in the area that had bells, were there?
“Do you hear something, Nina?” came Danielle’s voice.
“Yes” Nina replied. They sat up in bed and listened. The bell continued ringing, and as it did, it slowly got louder and louder, which meant it was getting closer. Now the girls could hear something else; a loud, panting chuff-puff, chuff-puff, chuff-puff, like some great creature breathing heavily. Then, above the panting and the bell, came a long, high note, loud but soft at the same time. The noises became louder still, as if the creature was right outside the door. A bright light began shining in the street below, then suddenly, the bell fell silent and the puffing sound was drowned out by a sequel of straining metal. It was clear that something was outside — maybe waiting for them. Nina took her sister’s hand. What if it was something unfriendly? It sure sounded alive, whatever it was. But after a minute or two, curiosity overcame fear. Cautiously the girls walked to the window and looked out. A moment later, their mouths dropped open. There, sitting in the middle of the street, right in front of the hotel was . . . a train!
